406 About the Contributors Susana de Juana-Espinosa has been a full time Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Organization of the University of Alicante since 2001. Previously, she worked as a researcher for the University of Murcia and the CEBAS-CSIC, and she has worked in the private sector as a director of personnel and accounting. She holds, besides her PhD in Business Organization, an MA in European Studies and a Degree in Business Administration. Her main teaching areas are Human Resource Man- agement, Information Systems Management, Quality Management, and E-business. Dr. de Juana’s research has mainly focused on using information and communications technologies (ICTs) to facilitate transformations in the strategies, business models, organisational designs, and human resource policies in both private and public organizations. She has worked closely with telecommunications organizations and local councils through research and consultancy. José Antonio Fernández Sánchez is an assistant Professor at the Department of Business Organi- zation at the University of Alicante (Spain) since 2000. He was previously an accounting manager in the private sector. Professor Fernández holds a Spanish Degree in Business Administration (Bachelor in Business Administration, BBA) and a Ph.D. in Business Organization (both at the University of Alicante). His main teaching areas are Human Resource Management and Strategic and Information Systems Management. He is also part of the staff of the Master of Human Resources program at the University of Alicante (Spain). Dr. Fernandez’s research focuses mainly on the use of strategies and information systems to facilitate human resource policies in the fields of recruitment and downsizing in private and public organizations. Encarnación Manresa Marhuenda has been a full time Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Organization of the University of Alicante since 2001. She holds, besides her PhD in Business Organization, a Degree in Economics. Her main teaching areas are Strategic Management and Human Resource Management. Dr. Manresa has focused her research on the analysis of corporate strategy, focusing on the processes of outsourcing, subcontracting, and vertical integration. She combines the subject with the influence of such a strategy on human resources and technology. She has worked in projects with local councils through Research and Consultancy. Jorge Valdés Conca has been a full time Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Organiza- tion of the University of Alicante since 2000. Previously, he has worked in the private sector as teacher in private academies, as a business administrator in a services company, and as a manager of the depart- ment of saving accounts in a bank. He holds a Degree in Business Administration and a PhD in Business About the Contributors Organization. His main teaching areas are Human Resource Management, Business Administration, and Competency-Based Human Resource Models. Dr. Valdés’s research has been centrally focused on design and implementation processes of Competency-Based Human Resource Models in companies. He is currently coordinating the OECA (Economic and Commercial Observatory of Alicante), developed for the City Council of Alicante. *** Carmen Avilés Palacios became PhD in Economics in Madrid (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos). She is currently professor at the Technical University of Madrid teaching Business economics and Organi- zation and Management. She authored several papers about Human resource Management, Corporate Responsibility; and Environmental Economics. Carmen is also very interested on TIC and its influence over teaching and learning processes. Alexis J. Bañon Gomis is the Director of a training workshop and the Deputy Director of the In- stitute for Ethics in Communication and Organizations (IECO). He is also Deputy Director the IECO- UNESCO Chair of Management, Trust, and Alterité. Bañón is Associate-Professor of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain). He has attended numerous academic and professional conferences and has been a research visiting scholar at IESE (Barcelona). He got his PhD at the University of Valencia, and is MBA by ESTEMA Business School. His current research interests are focused on organizational behaviour and business ethics. Maria Bastida Domínguez is an Associate Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), PhD in Business Administration and degree in Economics. She has published more than 20 papers, and her research focuses on two fields Human International Resources management, and the analysis of barriers for the professional career and promotion of women in public and private organizations. In col- laboration with Nuria Calvo and Jacobo Feás, she has realized numerous international contributions to this research. Nowadays she makes her educational work compatible with her responsibility as member of the research group in human resources and performance of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Inmaculada Beltrán-Martín is an Associate Professor at the Department of Business Management and Marketing at Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, Spain). She obtained her PhD in Business Adminis- tration. Her current research interests include labor flexibility, initiative, and strategic human resource management. Some of the results of her researches have been presented in national and international conferences and published in journals such as Journal of Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, or Personnel Review. Nuria Calvo Babío is an Associate Professor at the University of A Coruña, PhD in Business Admin- istration and degree in Economics and Industrial Psychology. After twelve years working as consultant in several firms (Accenture, Inditex), now she works as a Researcher in the Economic Analysis and Business Administration Department at University of A Coruña (Spain). Her research focuses on mod- elling human resources policies in organizations, and the assessment of different strategic approaches in spin-offs. She has published in System Dynamics Review, International Journal of Organizational 407 About the Contributors Analysis, European Research Studies Journal, and she has been visitor Professor in University of Porto (Portugal) and The Dublin Institute for Technology (Ireland). Lourdes Canós Darós has a degree in Business and Administration and her Ph.D. is about Hu- man Resources Management. Today, she is Vice-Director of Tourism Management Area in Universitat Politècnica de València, where she participates in different commissions. Her research expertise concerns some topics related to human resources management, strategic management, and business management. She has published papers in different international journals with recognized quality in the management field. She has also published some books about business topics. Currently, she is reviewer of top-level journals and she also reviews papers presented in international congresses. She has taught in different courses and seminars around the world. These conferences were about management in touristic compa- nies, management under uncertainty, human resources management, new technologies and information systems, decision making, et cetera. José Antonio Carazo Muriel is a journalist by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, PDD by IESE (Universidad de Navarra), and Diploma in Top Management Development Program by Universidad Antonio de Nebrija. He is currently Editor of the magazines Capital Humano, Gestión Práctica de Ries- gos Laborales, and Revista de Comunicación, published by Wolters Kluwer Spain. He is also Academic Director of the Training Division of this company. He has directed the fair Salón Capital Humano since 1996 and in 1997 prompted the creation of Capital Humano Awards for Human Resource Management. He is the Board Director of the Internal Communication and Corporate Identity Observatory, member of the Governing Council of Human Resources Latin-American Forum, and member of the Advisory Council of the Spanish Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Scientific and Professional Psychology (Psicofundación). He is also member of several professional associations (AEDIPE, AIG, APIE, AERCO, Top Ten). In 2000 he was awarded with the Company Values Award, and in 2007 and 2011, he was chosen as one of “The Most Influential People in Human Resources,” by the newspaper RRHHDigital. He is coauthor of the book “Do you live or work?” José Antonio Carrión López is Professor at the Department of Business Organization at the Uni- versity of Alicante. He is an Assistant Professor at the Murcia Business School (ENAE), as well as in the Master of Personnel and Human Resources Management at the University of Alicante Business School (training course on Techniques for Human Resource Management). He has a degree in Psychol- ogy from the University of Murcia and Master’s in Human Resources Management from the Center of Financial Studies, in Madrid. He has developed his career in the Human Resources field for over 20 years, both as a consultant and director of companies such as Grupo Santander, Adecco, Alexandre Tic Consultants, and BR Group. He has successfully developed and implemented human resources projects, such as: goal-oriented management systems and goal-driven performance assessment; variable salary system, adapted to different groups within the company; writing of a job-description and posts-analysis handbook; drawing-up of procedures for recruitment, selection,
