Important MCQs Points Posterior intercostal vein , artery and nerve lie above downward in costal groove of rib. There are nine intercostal space anteriority and eleven posteriorly. Lateral cutaneous branch of 2nd intercostal nerve is called intercostobrachial nerve. 2nd 3rd and 4th intercostal veins drain into superior intercostal vein and Ultimately into azygous. While left Superior intercostal vein drain into brachiocephalic vein. Internal Thoracic artery originate at 2cm above the sternal end of clavicle Internal thoracic artery terminate at 6th intercoastal space and divide into superior epigastric and musculophrenic artery. Greater splanchnic nerve form from 5 to 9 ganglion's root and in coelic and renal ganglion. www.themedicalglobe.com / www.mgElearning.net Page 1 of 4 Lesser splanchnic nerves form by 10 and 11 roots and end in coelic ganglion. Least splanchnic nerve form from 12 rotth and it is renal nerve. The tubercle has a smooth articular part forarticulating with the corresponding transverse process of the vertebra and a rough nonarticular part for attachment of the costotransverse ligament. The surface of the 1st rib has two transversely directed shallow grooves, anterior and posterior to the scalene tubercle, for the subclavian vein and the subclavian artery respectively. The intercostobrachial nerve communicates with the medial brachial cutaneous nerve. The musculophrenic artery gives rise to anterior intercostal arteries for intercostal spaces. The azygos vein receives blood from the posterior intercostal veins, vertebral venous plexuses, mediastinal veins, esophageal veins, and bronchial veins. The hemiazygos vein receives blood from the left subcostal vein, ascending lumbar veins, the inferior three posterior intercostal veins, inferior esophageal veins, and small mediastinal veins . The accessory hemiazygos descends on the left side of the vertebral column from T5 through T8. The sympathetic trunk contains the superior, middle, and inferior cervical ganglia; paavertebral ganglia; and the ganglion impar. www.themedicalglobe.com / www.mgElearning.net Page 2 of 4 In the synaptic trunk, presynaptic neurons synapse with postsynaptic neurons immediately. Some fibers ascend and synapse, while other fibers descend and synapse. Some fibers pass into a splanchnic nerve without synapsing. IMP SEQ’S Intercostal muscles Intercostal arteries and nerves.
