At the time of the re-organ is at ion of the Pub jab State, at that time ,it aomprised of three sufcf-di vis ions, namely shimla, Kandaghat and Nalagarh with two tehsils namely Kandaghat and Nalagarh and one sub- tehsil shimla* On the re-organisatioti of shimla and Mahasu Distripc On l'*9.1972- in the new shimla District, most of the territory of the erst—while Mahasu district was merged with shimla sub-rehsil and tvjt> of the sub-divisions of tne old shimla District namely Kandaghat and Nalagarh were merged with the newly created Solan district; Jr ■ £ The present shimla D istrict comprises of five sub- divisicns namely Shimla, Theog, chopal# Rohru and Rampur having *• tweleve tehsils namely shimla, seoni^ Theog/chopal#vJUbbal,Kotkhai# Rohru/Kumharsain and Rampur, chirgoan two sub-tehsils namely Nankhari and KupVi for administrative purposes, por development ♦ * purposes the district is divided in to eight blocks namely K\5^vunpti-seoni, Theog, ehopal<^ jubbal and Kotkhai, Rohru, Chhohara/ Kumarsain and Rampur. T^ere are two hundred and seventy three gram Panchyats in the^district having 2/188 inhabited and 221 un-inhabited villages. Thereare six urban area3 in the district namely mnicipal cori>oration, shimla Municipal committee Theog and Rairpur, N o tified area committee Dhalli and Rohru and contonmant Board jutogh. l o c a t i o n SMi BOUNDARIES:- The District is situated tetween loiggitudes 37«.02* and 78* 18* and latitudeds 30® 43* .
