In 1949 het hy inspekteuf van skole geword en in 1952 Sekretaris van die Onderwysdeparte- ment. Destyds was dit nog 'n professionele en administratiewe pos. Toe hierdie pos 'n aantal jare gelede geskei is in Adjunk-direkteur en Sekre- taris van Onderwys, het mnr.
