SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES 4.1 Description of first aid measures General advice Get medical attention immediately. Move out of dangerous area. Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. If inhaled Remove to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, apply artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Call a physician immediately. In case of skin contact Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Destroy contaminated shoes. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Call a physician immediately. In case of eye contact In case of eye contact, remove contact lens and rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately. If swallowed Oral ingestion of the product is practically not possible because of the spontaneous flammability. 4.2 Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed Most important symptoms and Symptoms: No information available. effects, both acute and delayed Risks: No information available. 4.3 Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed Indication of any immediate Treatment: No information available. medical attention and special treatment needed SECTION 5: FIREFIGHTING MEASURES 5.1 Extinguishing media Suitable extinguishing media Dry chemical, Dry sand Unsuitable extinguishing media Foam, Halons, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Do NOT use water jet. 5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture Specific hazards during Dangerous gases or fumes may occur in case of fire. firefighting Reacts violently with water. 5.3 Advice for firefighters Special protective equipment In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Use personal for firefighters protective equipment. Aluminized complete fire proximity suit (Form 3 according DIN EN 1486) Further information Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray. No standard methods have been developed for extinguishing large-scale metal alkyl fires. Small fires may be extinguished using dry powder (ABC or M). Water often strongly reacts with metal alkyl! Water based foams, chemical foams, and halogenated extinguishers may NOT be used. Waterspray may only be used by experienced fire fighters. Water reacts violently with metal alkyls but has been found to be an effective fire control treatment if one is thoroughly familiar with the violent reaction and personnel are properly protected from explosion. Remove unnecessary personnel from the danger area. Consider to let it burn out completely. SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES 6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures Personal precautions Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Remove unnecessary personnel from the danger area. Remove all sources of ignition. Use personal protective equipment. Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Drying of this product on clothing or combustible materials may cause fire. Special precautions Only qualified personnel equipped with suitable protective equipment may intervene. The danger areas must be delimited and identified using relevant warning and safety signs. 6.2 Environmental precautions Environmental precautions Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Do not let product enter drains. 6.3 Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up Methods for cleaning up Keep away from water strictly. Cleaning procedures can not be defined as the product itself is flammable in air. 6.4 Reference to other sections For personal protection see section 8. SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE 7.1 Precautions for safe handling Advice on safe handling Do not allow contact with air. Triethylaluminium and it solutions must be handled under a dry, inert atmosphere e.g. nitrogen or argon. Keep away from water. Protect from moisture. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid spark promoters. Ground/bond container and equipment. These alone may be insufficient to remove static electricity. During sampling, disconnecting lines or opening connections, flame/fire resistant clothing or an aluminised suit should be worn. Do not get on skin or clothing. This substance should be handled under strictly controlled conditions as specified in REACH regulation article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements in accordance with risk-based management system should be available at each manufacturing site. During the whole lifecycle all necessary measures should be undertaken to minimize emissions and any resulting exposure. Advice on protection against Use explosion-proof equipment. fire and explosion Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Reacts violently with water, liberating highly flammable gases. Print Date 03.12.2019 000000013893 CONEUSDBUS E 4/14 EC-SAFETY DATA SHEET ALCAT TEAL - 94 Version: 1.08 Revision Date 07.02.2019 Water must be scrupulously removed from process equipment prior to putting it into metal alkyl service. Failure to do so may result in fire or explosion. For aluminium alkyls such as triethylaluminium, any contact with air - even for very small amounts - will lead to generation of smoke or spontaneous ignition. Fire-fighting class B: Fires involving liquids or liquid containing substances. Also includes substances which become liquid at elevated temperatures. 7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities Requirements for storage areas Store under inert gas (nitrogen). Keep container tightly closed. Protect from and containers moisture. Optimal storage temperature is ca. 20°C. Store in original container. Further information on storage Store under inert gas (nitrogen). conditions Other
