Ferrari in Art – The Sporting Legacy By International Artist Mark Dickens in collaboration with renowned F1 Photographer Keith Sutton Celebrating over 70 years of Ferrari ‘Ferrari in Art – The Sporting Legacy’ celebrates everything Ferrari. The cars, the drivers, the history and most importantly of all, the PASSION! Ferrari has an unrivalled, unbridled position in the automotive world and sits in a unique place embodying the very essence of beauty, design, speed, style, class and winning. These new series of artworks by Mark Dickens in collaboration with Keith Sutton encompasses all these lauded features. Comprising 25 paintings celebrating the first seventy years of Ferrari in a sporting context we have approached drivers, owners, fans, collectors, engineers and motorsport personalities asking them to express exclusively in their own handwritten words what the name Ferrari means to them providing a very real personal insight. Mark's paintings are mixed-media works, building layer upon layer of photographic transfers, hand-made paper, gold leaf, fabric, resin and paint. For each painting, drivers and motorsport personalities were asked to express in their own words what Ferrari means to them. The quotes were then incorporated by Mark into the painting, to provide a fascinating insight into what Ferrari means to them. One of which was Ross Brawn OBE, former Ferrari F1 Team Principal. Speaking of his time at Ferrari, Brawn said “It was a very special period in my life. Ferrari is very much a team spirit. I love the history of Ferrari, it wasn’t manufactured, it was organic. Enzo Ferrari didn’t sit down and say we are going to create this empire, and this is how we are going to do it, everything just evolved to be the world-famous car racing team and car manufacturer that it is today. To be a small part of that is very special. I’ve been lucky enough to stand on the podium at Monza when Ferrari have won and there’s no better sensation than that. Seeing the huge crowds and the emotion and passion of the fans”. Seeing his quote adorning the Enzo Ferrari artwork Uberto Selvatico Estense, the President of The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari said “It’s unbelievable and makes me very proud to see this. For me it’s a dream, to be part of the Ferrari legend is something incredible”. Ferrari in Art – The Sporting Legacy Unveilling the Collection – continued….. Brenda Vernor reflected on her time as the Personal Assistant to Enzo Ferrari for 20 years “It was the best years of my life. I was the only woman, an English woman working with 199 men from drivers to mechanics. You couldn’t do that now”. “Just reading the names of those that have contributed is like a ‘Who’s Who’ of Ferrari – from the Designers who helped create the dream to World Champions who realised the dream – from Team Principals who guided the dream to Collectors and Owners who live the dream – From Engineers who maintained the dream to the die-hard fans who love the dream!” Ferrari in Art – The Sporting Legacy Ferrari in Art – The sporting Legacy “Ferrari stands for excellence, expertise, competition, elegance and tradition. All drivers dream at some point in their career, of racing for Ferrari, as it embodies the very essence of high performance in sport. It is a generator of dreams for most of us. It’s an aura that is not about to wane in any way with future generations. Since the women and men who contribute to it are inbred with its history and the will to perpetuate Enzo Ferrari’s legacy” His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco Ferrari in Art – The sporting Legacy “After my family, Ferrari is the most significant part of my life. I can see the synergy between what I do and what happens at Ferrari” Gordon Ramsay 3 Star Michelin Chef and Ferrari Owner Ferrari in Art – The sporting Legacy “My father would have liked Ferrari of today? Tough and demanding, as a father and as a boss, capable of gestures of great and unexpected generosity. Courageous and innovative, always looking to the future decided to set up the “Scuderia” in 1929 the year of the great crisis and the project of creating a car factory in Italy still living in the ruins of the Second World War. My father was interested to the future, not to the past. Not just interested in the cars of the future but on all new technologies from which top take imagination for future projects. For sure he would have been enthusiastic about the “internet era”, but unfortunately died before.
