Amirtharajah, EEC216 Winter 2008 26 Switching Activity in Sequential Circuits • Estimating activity more difficult for sequential than combinational circuits – Due to activity of state nodes typically being unknown at beginning of estimation process – Compute activity assuming steady state • Assume sequential circuits implement FSM where states follow Markov process – Solve for probabilities of states using state transition probabilities • Best implemented in CAD tools R.
