
Analysis of traffic monitoring systems The marine casualties Page 1 Analysis of traffic monitoring systems The marine casualties – Framework analysis Maritime Authorities have expressed the need to monitor and identify possible reasons of the casualties happened in the Adriatic Sea and for this purpose Maritime Authority of Bari, Pescara, Ancona, Venice, Trieste, Ravenna, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro has provided casualties happened out of the port area during the period 2006-2015, making it possible: Ø Data collecting Ø Conversion, for each casualty, of coordinates provided in the standard WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984) Ø Casualties classification (Collision, Aground and Grounding and collision with a fixed item) Ø Classification of involved vessel type Database DATABASE Ø Identification of the “In scope” casualties for geolocation and type of accident Ø Collecting laws and official documents in order to identify the necessary details and coordinates to map Precautional areas, Traffic separation Scheme / VTS, Area to be avoided, Berth areas, Traffic Line and Other Classification of involved area vessel type Ø Mapping of the casualties, characterized by type of MAPPED CASUALTY >> 82 casualty, DATA Ø Mapping of regulated areas (Traffic Separation MAPPED TRAFFIC MAPPING Datamapping SEPARATION SCHEME >> 12 Scheme) with GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Platform Italy) The mapping has identified correlations between the casualties declared by the Maritime Authorities and regulated areas.
