Local Authority Areas (31/03/2009)

Local Authority Areas (31/03/2009) Local Authority Boundary Changes 1 April 2009 Background On 1 April 2009, there will be a reorganisation of local government that will create nine new unitary authorities (UAs). Five of these will be created from existing county councils and their district councils. The remaining four will be created by splitting Cheshire and Bedfordshire into two each along existing district council boundaries. The nine unitary authorities will, therefore, all be aggregates of existing local authorities. Further details of the reorganisation are shown below: • Bedford UA will be formed from Bedford District Council • Central Bedfordshire UA will be formed from Mid Beds and South Beds District Councils. • Cheshire East UA will be formed from Congleton, Crewe & Nantwich and Macclesfield District Councils. • Cheshire West and Chester UA will be formed from Chester, Ellesmere Port and Vale Royal District Councils. • Cornwall UA will be formed from the Caradon, Carrick, Kerrier, North Cornwall, Penwith and Restormel District Councils (note the Isles of Scilly remains separate). • County Durham UA will be formed from Chester-le-Street, Derwentside, Durham, Easington, Sedgefield, Teesdale and Wear Valley District Councils. • Northumberland UA will be formed from Alnwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Blyth Valley, Castle Morpeth, Tynedale and Wansbeck District Councils. • Shropshire UA will be formed from Bridgnorth, North Shropshire, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and South Shropshire District Councils. • Wiltshire UA will be formed from Kennet, North Wiltshire, Salisbury and West Wiltshire District Councils. Changes in Nomis Wizard/Advanced Queries. Nomis will update the two local authorities geographies on 1 April to represent the new unitary authority areas. The pre-reorganisation geographies will be renamed pre- 2009 local authorities and moved to the historical heading. Users wanting to access data for the district areas abolished in the reorganisation should use these historical geographies - in wizard queries, select historical from the drop-down selection box to see these areas. Local Authority Profiles. Profiles are available for both the new UAs and old pre-organisation areas. www.nomisweb.co.uk - 01/10/2021 (page 1 of 1).
