Upon arrival, pay a visit to Yangon’s most iconic landmark, Shwedagon Pagoda. The massive 99-metre-high gold-plated pagoda with a diamond-studded stupa is Myanmar’s most important Buddhist pilgrimage site. Make another stop at Kha Khat Wain Monastery, the largest monastery in Bago, where you can catch a glimpse of the daily lives of monks. After lunch, head to Kin Pun, where you will take a 40-minute journey on a hill truck up Mt Kyaiktiyo, where the famous Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, otherwise known as Golden Rock, awaits you. The giant, precariously balanced gold boulder topped with a stupa is said to be perched on a strand of the Buddha’s hair. Your first stop is Shwemawdaw Pagoda, the tallest pagoda in Myanmar and reputedly houses two of the Buddha’s hair. Next, proceed to Shwethalyaung Buddha, one of the largest reclining Buddha images in Myanmar, before visiting Kanbawzathadi Palace, a reconstruction of several buildings of the original palace, which was burned down. Thereafter, explore Kyauktawgyi Pagoda, housing one of Myanmar’s largest Buddha images. You will start to see the green lush fields of rural Yangon before arriving at a bustling local market, Danyingone Market. Immerse in the market atmosphere as you mix among the locals, dive into the local cuisine and marvel at the unique forms of transportation while vendors go about their trade. After lunch, let your purse strings loose at Bogyoke Aung San Market. Thereafter, return to the centre of Yangon and do not miss the opportunity to take a look at the beautiful colonial-era architecture of the city as you drive past important landmarks such as monuments, embassies and government buildings. Along the way, make a photo stop at Sule Pagoda and St Mary’s Cathedral. Then, visit Kheng Hock Keong Chinese temple, which is dedicated to the sea goddess, Mazu, and is the oldest Chinese Buddhist and Taoist temple in Yangon.
