www.goyanz.org.nz G.O.Y.A.N.Z. Greek Orthodox Youth Association of New Zealand www.goyanz.org.nz Issue No. 18 June/July 2003 MISS GOYANZ 2003 Saturday 31 May 2003 IN THIS ISSUE Page 3 - Spyro Serepisos Mr GOYANZ 2003 , Spiros Kasoulides is interviewd by MC Chrisanthi Kamberiogiannis Page 4 - The Olympic Torch Page 5 - Golden Kitchen Jim Christie presents Miss GOYANZ 2003, Meropi Kafakis, with 1st prize The younger brigade had a good time too The annual GOYANZ dance took place on Saturday 31st of May, with a crowd of about 350 people. Even though the large numbers made the seating quite ‘intimate’, it was great to see so many people supporting this annual event, especially young ones. The Melbourne band Kerasma provided Greek entertainment until the early hours of the morning, and faced no difficulty in getting the kefi going, with people filling the Page 7 - Eksodos of Messologi dancefloor from pretty much the start of the night. As every year there was plenty of food, an auction and a raffle. Apart from the usual crowning of Miss GOYANZ, the selection of Mr GOYANZ was a definite surprise and, judging from the crowd reactions, a welcome addition to the usual tradition. Unfortunately he didn’t get a crown though! Jim Christie of Harvey World Travel very generously donated travel vouchers for Miss GOYANZ for the last time, as he will be retiring soon. Vera Georgiou also donated 1st prize for Mr GOYANZ, a trip to Aussie. Page 10 - Greek Festival Congratulations to the winners and runners-up, and many thanks to everyone who helped with the dance preparations (especially the GOYANZ committee) and also to the sponsors of the event. Hopefully next year will be just as successful! GOYANZ Clubroom opening Sunday 20th April 2003 Over 150 people attended the Page 13 - Greek School GOYANZ clubroom open day at 75 Adelaide Rd. The operative word here is commit - this means you are able to go out of your way from time to time to carry out a committee task or sacrificing some of your leisure time for GOYANZ Youth committee work.
