Steve was my first choice to film with for several years, up until his return to Sydney last year. In that time he filmed for BBC Sport at the World Cup and European Championships in football. He also filmed the BBC1 documentary Premiership Priory in which we spent three months filming in former England captain Tony Adams’ addiction clinic. It was a very delicate situation because we were dealing with drug addicts, alcoholics and gamblers, all in therapy. Steve was the perfect man for the job. Great pictures, great work ethic and a feel for the editorial needs of the situation. Steve is hardworking and creative. The pictures he shoots are beautiful. I first worked with him in 2004 and soon found him to be my favoured cameraman. In fact, as I have also worked at rival broadcasters ITV and Sky Sports I think I would be in a good position to say he would be one of, if not the best cameraman I have worked with. The work Steve has done with me varies from beautifully lit sit? down in depth interviews to quick turnaround, quick reaction pieces where the cameraman needs to have his wits about him. Not only does he understand direction quickly and translate that to excellent images he is also able to operate with the minimum of directorial input when such events require it. He understands the need for artistic images and what makes a perfect shot and is therefore an excellent "art" or iso cameraman as well as superb in filming interviews, observational material or outside broadcasts.
