Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project SECTION 26 05 19 INSULATED WIRES AND CABLES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 DESCRIPTION The Work specified in this Section consists of furnishing and installing wires and cables as specified and as indicated. 1.2 QUALITY CONTROL Comply with Section 01 43 10, Project Quality Program Requirements - Design/Build. 1.3 REFERENCE STANDARDS Comply with the latest issuance of each referenced standard and code. A. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) ANSI MC96.1 Temperature Measurement Thermocouples B. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) ASTM B3 Soft or Annealed Copper Wire C. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) IEEE 383 Type Test of Class 1E Electric Cables, Field Splices, and Connections for Nuclear Power Generating Stations D. International Cable Engineers Association (ICEA) E. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) ANSI/ICEA S-95-658 / NEMA WC 70 Non-shielded 0-2kV Cables ANSI/ICEAS-96-659 / NEMA WC 71 Non-shielded 2001-5kV Cables ANSI/ICEA S-93-639 / NEMA WC 74 Shielded Power Cable 5-46 kV F. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC) NFPA 130 Standard for the Design of Fixed Guideway Transit Systems INSULATED WIRES AND CABLES ISSUED: 08/02/13 METRO C0980 26 05 19 - 1 Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project G. Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) UL 62 Flexible Cord and Fixture Wire 1.4 SUBMITTALS Refer to Section 01 33 00, Submittals, for submittal procedures. A. Manufacturer Product Data - Before installation of wire and cable, submit a list of proposed wires and cables to be provided for the electrical installation, identifying the typical application, usage and location of each submitted wire and cable data sheet. Submit the following information for each type and size of wire and cable: 1. Manufacturer of wire and cable. 2. Number and size of strands composing each conductor. 3. Conductor insulation composition and thickness in mils. 4. Average overall diameter of finished wire and cable. 5. Minimum insulation resistance in megohms per 1000 feet at 20°C ambient. 6. Jacket composition and thickness in mils. 7. Total number of conductors per cable. 8. Shield materials and thickness. 9. Conductor resistance and reactance in ohms per 1000 feet at 20°C ambient. 10. Conductor ampacity at 20°C ambient. 11. Bending radius of cable sizes larger than 1/0. 12. Cable weight per linear foot. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. Furnish cables, conduits, cable assemblies and support hardwares for feeders and branch circuits, as described in the following articles 2.2 to 2.11, as required to comply with Metro Design Criteria, the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the following requirements: 1. NFPA 130 rating, UL equipment listing and ASTM E136 non-combustible material requirements. 2. All conductors shall be insulated and shall be listed for wet locations. Insulation INSULATED WIRES AND CABLES ISSUED: 08/02/13 METRO C0980 26 05 19 - 2 Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project shall be moisture and heat-resistive type and shall conform to NFPA 70 cable insulation requirements. 3. Listed for resistance to the spread of fire and reduced smoke emissions per FT4/IEEE 1202 exposure requirements and peak release rate requirements of ANSI/UL 1685. 4. Branch circuit rating and listing requirements shall be based on the location of branch circuits and the type of loads supported as either life safety system related or non-life safety system related, as defined in Metro’s Life Safety Design Criteria, and applying the requirements of items 1 through 3 listed above. In general, life safety system equipment loads and associated branch circuiting are those supporting the operation of systems that provide the safe egress of patrons from stations and tunnels during a fire or other life safety related event. These systems typically include: 1) Emergency egress lighting. 2) Emergency ventilation. 3) Fire detection and protection systems. 4) Gas detection systems. 5) Emergency communications. 6) Emergency control systems. 2.2 CONDUCTORS A. Type - ICEA stranded copper, soft drawn. B. Insulation Rating: 600 volts. 2.3 CABLES A. Non-Life Safety System Branch Circuit Cables: 1. Size 1/0 AWG and Smaller - NFPA 70 Type XHHW, cross-linked-thermosetting- polyethylene-insulated in accordance with NEMA WC70, WC71 and WC74 or NFPA 70 Type RHW, ethylene-propylene-rubber-insulated neoprene, Hypalon or CPE jacketed in accordance with NEMA WC 70. Compliant with NFPA 130 -5.4 and -6.33 Wiring Requirements. 2. Size 2/0 AWG and Larger - NFPA 70 Type RHW, ethylene-propylene-rubber- insulated, neoprene, Hypalon or Type CPE jacket and has better abrasion resistance when pulled through uncleaned conduits. Jacketing in accordance with NEMA WC 70. Compliant with NFPA 130 -5.4 and -6.33 Wiring Requirements. 3. Temperature ratings of cables - Not less than 90°C. INSULATED WIRES AND CABLES ISSUED: 08/02/13 METRO C0980 26 05 19 - 3 Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project 4. Use multiple conductor cable for power applications, except receptacles and when otherwise indicated, and when installed in cable tray for sizes up to 4/0. 5. Control wires: Provide multi-conductor type cables, minimum size No. 14 AWG stranded copper, except wiring between CIC compartments, where a minimum of No. 16 stranded copper can be used. 6. Jacketed over insulation suitable for installation in cable tray. B. Life Safety Branch Circuit Cables: 1. Compliant with NFPA 130 branch circuit rating and UL listing requirements. 2. 1 hour rated cables UL 2196 listed, or conductors included as part of a listed UL 2196 assembly, meeting the following requirements: a. NFPA 70 Type RHW-2, copper conductor with cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) Insulation, jacketing NEMA WC 70 and RoHS/REACH compliant, or equivalent conductor, provided as part of an assembly tested and listed per UL 2196 listing requirements. b. Pass flame propagating criteria of IEEE 383 and with minimum circuit time of five minutes in flame test of IEEE 383. Type test certificate is required with every shipment of cables. c. Temperature ratings of cables - Not less than 90°C. d. Cable assemblies capable of withstanding a sustained fire with a temperature of 250°C (482°F) for a minimum of one hour. 3. 2 hour rated cables UL 2196 listed, or conductors included as part of UL 2196 assembly, meeting the following requirements: a. NFPA 70 type RHW-2, copper conductor with cross-linked polyethylene (XLP) insulation, jacketing NEMA WC 70 and RoHS/REACH compliant, or equivalent conductor, provided as part of an assembly tested and listed per UL 2196 listing requirements. b. Pass flame propagating criteria of IEEE 383 and with minimum circuit time of five minutes in flame test of IEEE 383. Type test certificate is required with every shipment of cables. c. Temperature ratings of cables - Not less than 90°C. d. Cable assemblies capable of withstanding a sustained fire with a temperature of 250°C (482°F) for a minimum of two hours. 2.4 METAL CLAD CABLE A. Metal clad cable with single or multiconductor configuration with ground wire compliant with NFPA 70 metal clad cable requirements. Insulation Material: low smoke zero halogen polymer meeting listing requirements. D. Armor: Continuously welded and corrugated copper. E. 1 hour fire rated power cable. F. Listed per UL 2196 requirements. G. UL listed in accordance with NFPA 70 Type MC UL standard 1569. H. UL listed for CT (cable tray) use. 2.5 MINERAL INSULATED CABLE A. NFPA 70 Mineral Insulated (MI) cable type with single or multi-conductor configurations with ground wire compliant with NFPA 70 Article 332 requirements. B. Conductor: Solid high conductivity copper C. Insulation Material: Magnesium Oxide D. Insulation Voltage Rating: 600 Volts E. Cabling Rating: 90°C F. Cable Sheath/Armor: Seamless soft-drawn copper G. Listing: UL 2196 2 hour listed cable 2.6 FIXTURE WIRE UL 62 with following additional requirements: A. Type - SF-2 silicone rubber insulated. B. Conductor - Stranded copper conductor 16 or larger as indicated. 2.7 BARE CONDUCTOR ASTM B3, Class B stranded annealed soft-drawn copper conductor unless otherwise indicated, size as indicated. Bare conductor - Use for internal equipment ground connections only. Feeders and branch circuit ground conductors provided with insulation per article 2.2 and 2.3 with green colored jacket. 2.8 THERMOCOUPLE CABLE Provide thermocouple cable with solid conductors meeting requirements of ANSI MC96.1 and of type compatible with thermocouple leads furnished with motor or temperature sensor. Thermocouple cable - Flame-retardant insulation, pair assembled with left-hand lay, flame-retardant outer jacket, with overall shield and UL listed as Type INSULATED WIRES AND CABLES ISSUED: 08/02/13 METRO C0980 26 05 19 - 5 Regional Connector Transit Corridor Project PLTC. 2.9 COLOR CODING OF CONDUCTORS A. Color code of multiple conductor, 120 VAC control cables - Conform to NEMA WC 57 or as indicated. B. Color code power supply cables and branch circuit conductors throughout secondary alternating current wiring system as follows: CONDUCTOR 208/120 VOLTS 480/277 VOLTS A Black Brown B Red Orange C Blue Yellow Neutral White White Ground (Communication) Green Green Ground (Power) Bare/Green Bare/Green C. Branch circuit phase conductors No. 10 and smaller, neutral and equipment ground conductors - Solid color insulation or solid color coating. D. Phase conductors having colored tracers - Background color other than white or green. E. Solid color coatings and tracers - A strongly adherent paint or dye non damaging to the insulation, will not fade, and which will not be obliterated by pulling into a conduit or raceway.
