LASALLE PROGRAMME GUIDE • UNDERGRADUATE LASALLE 2009/2010 5 ➡ BACKgroUND: LASALLE was founded by Brother Joseph McNally – a De La Salle educator who was also a pioneer of creative arts education in Singapore – in 1984. ➡ PrograMMes & AWarDS: LASALLE offers a comprehensive range of programmes specialising in the disciplines of Arts Management, Design, Fine Arts, Film, Media Arts, Dance, Music and Theatre. Students can look forward to graduating with the award of a Diploma of Higher Education, a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) or a Master of Arts in their respective specialisations. ➡ GOVernMENT SUpporT: As part of the government’s plans to upgrade tertiary arts education in Singapore, LASALLE has been in receipt of financial support from the Ministry of Education for Diploma provision since 1999. Eligible students are entitled to subsidised fees for diploma studies through the MOE Tuition Grant Scheme (conditions apply). ➡ INTernaTional RECogniTion: Since 2004, LASALLE has been subjecting its programme to benchmark statements for Art, Design and Performing Arts developed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA, UK) Framework through its International & Validation partnership with the Open University Validation Services (OUVS). OUVS is also the accrediting and validating body of leading arts institutions such as Leeds College of Art & Design, Leeds College of Music, Plymouth College of Art & Design, Central School of Speech & Drama (until recently), Architectural Association School of Architecture, Utrecht School of the Arts (The Netherlands), bringing opportunities for LASALLE to share good practice.
