Cheshire County Cricket League 2016 NEWSLETTER : WEEK 1 APRIL 23 Six winners in Premier League as 10 teams top 200 runs THERE was plenty of positive cricket on the opening day of the ECB Premier League season as six winners emerged and 10 out of the 12 teams topped 200 runs. Champions in 2014 and 2015, Hyde got off to a winning start at Werneth Low at the expense of traditional rivals Chester Boughton Hall, with one ball of the last over remaining Chester hit 227-4 declared off 53.4 overs, Rick Moore 60, Lee Dixon 53, Jason Whittaker 4-47, returnee Dan Cranmer 4-63. Hyde replied with 228-9 with their last pair in and one ball left, Danny Berry 46 and Jason Whittaker a key knock of 32. When promoted clubs Timperley and Urmston met at Stockport Road, Urmies emerged one wicket winners on 239-9, Calum Turner 97, Dan Cooper 6-42. Timperley had reached 238-5, Colin Grindley 62 not out, Cooper 50. Carl Hey hit the season’s first century, his 117 helping Bowdon total 262-5 at home to Bramhall, with former Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple contributing a sparkling 69 on debut before being removed by Red Rose starlet Danny Lamb (see page 4) Bramhall replied with 202, Lamb 59, while Chris Ashling claimed a best-of-the-day 6-32 - - and Chapple 0-18 off six overs. Returning to the club he played for as a junior, James Cornford scored a fine 99 for Nantwich who ran up 230-8 at Toft, Pete Talbot 4-49. Lancashire’s Rob Jones topped that with a splendid innings of 107 not out in partnership with James Drumond, 72 as the Knutsfordians coasted home at 232-4. Macclesfield tallied 201 at home to Alderley Edge, Lancashire’s Jordan Clark taking 4-54 on debut. Clark went on to dominate Alderley’s response of 202-6 with a rapid 75. Lowest scoring game was at Neston, where Cheadle mustered only 116, Elliott Bullock 49, Chris Finegan 4-35, Simon Mugava 4-44. Neston replied with a confident 118-3, Simon Stokes 55 not out, David Hurst 37. Grappenhall make mark in Division One IN Division One, relegated Grappenhall beat promoted neighbours Warrington by three wickets. With Liam Heaphy unbeaten on 60, Warrington mustered 198 and Grappers replied with 192-7, South African Ryan Ninan 55 …with three balls remaining. Weaverham ran up 227 at home to relegated Marple, bowling their first time visitors out for 141. Star turn for the victors was Guyanan all-rounder Wilden Cornwall with 88 and 5-17. Promoted Bollington lost at Davenham after totalling 207-7, South African debutant Givon Christian taking 4-32. Christian also impressed with the bat, hitting 106 in company with James Loveridge, 50 as Davenham replied with 208-5. Didsbury routed Tattenhall for 63 and replied with a comfortable 64-1. Oulton Park were impressive seven wickets winners at Sale whom they ousted for 134, debutant Kiwi Sam Blandford taking 5- 40. Park responded with 136-3, Danny Leech 62 not out. Oxton’s Adam Patel hit the highest individual score of the day - 151 not out - in a declared tally of 317-3 at home to Cheadle Hulme. He faced 80 balls and hit seven sixes and 15 fours. Graham Cashin 62 not out and Saaiiq Choudhry 58 also batted well. ‘Hulme’s last pair held out at 196-9 to force the day’s only draw. New boys win in Division Two BOTH promoted clubs won in Division Two. Barrow by nine runs at home to Upton, former Christleton all-rounder Iroshan De Silva scoring 76 on debut. Lindow, with Ryan O’Brien 55, won by one wicket against Mobberley who posted 214-5, Rob Spilsbury 88. Widnes won by seven wickets at Brooklands, whom they bowled out for 95. Northwich beat Middlewich by five wickets at Moss Farm, Matthew Dufty 55, Sam Shepherd 4-33. With Alex Barber claiming 6-48 Stockport won at Christleton after bowling out their hosts for 143. Alvanley were handsome 119 runs winners at Congleton, Steve Charles 55 and 3-11.
