EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture/Mies Van Der Rohe Awards

Since 1988, the European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe of Barcelona have been jointly responsible for the biennial European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award. The proposals made for each prize submitted by the nominators – the experts, the national architects associations and the advisory committee – are used by the Jury to arrive at its decisions on the Prize Winner, the Emerging Architect Winner and a broad selection of shortlisted works to disseminate European architecture by means of catalogues, exhibitions, lectures and debates. In 2013, the 13th Award coincided with its 25th anniversary. In the course of these 25 years, the Fundació has organised thirteen Awards and built up a database of nearly 2,500 nominated works, one of the largest archives on contemporary architecture, consisting of photographs, drawings, digital and audiovisual materials and models. The 14th Award received 420 nominated works, from amongst which the Jury members shortlisted 40 projects. Five finalist works competed for the Prize, and one Emerging Architect was chosen. The pavilion has a sensous materiality – the eye is not enough, you want to touch it, enjoy it with all of your senses. — Ákos Moravánszky, 2008 The Archive The Archive European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe Award 2015 Total participating countries 36 Projects/ Country/ Year EDITION FINLAND 2015 ICELAND NORWAY PROJECTS SWEDEN 420 ESTONIA DENMARK LATVIA UNITED KINGDOM NETHER- LITHUANIA LANDS IRELAND Winner Emerging Finalist GERMANY Project Architect Project Project 21 20 27 POLAND UE countries BELGIUM CZECH REPUBLIC LUXEMBOURG SLOVAKIA EEA countries AUSTRIA HUNGARY UE candidate countries LIECHTEN- FRANCE STEIN 25 SLOVENIA ROMANIA SERBIA BULGARIA ITALY 18 MACEDONIA PORTUGAL CROATIA 10—11 12—15 35 BOSNIA 21 TURKEY HERZEGOVINA SPAIN MONTENEGRO GREECE 1—2 3–4 5—6 7—9 MALTA ALBANIA CYPRUS Organisational Network Finalist Projects 2015 DanishBIG Copenhagen, Maritime Denmark Museum BIG—Bjarke Ingels Group Szczecin, BarozziPhilarmonic Veiga Hall Poland Szczecin Barozzi / Veiga O’DonnellSaw Swee + Tuomey Hock London, Ravensburg, LRORavensburg Architekten Art ArchitectsStudent Centre, UK Germany Museum London School Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei of Economics O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects Bargino, ArcheaAntinori Associati Winery Archea Associati Florence, Italy “The Jury [of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award] highlights the important role that clients play in the commissioning and encouragement of socially responsible projects.” — Norman Foster, 1994 Winner Philharmonic Hall, Szczecin Barozzi / Veiga MNAC Exhibition: “Constructing Europe” Exhibiting 250 models 07/06/13 25 years 2013 Award in the domed hall of the museum 3.953 visitors in 2 months 2.500 exposed projects 140 models exhibited 07/06/13 25 years celebration 2013 Award 07/06/14 Biennale di Venezia 07/06/13 25 years 2013 Award Anne Isopp Emilio Tuñón Esteve Bonell Sigurður Einarsson Tarald Lundevall Bjarke Ingels Paul Robbrecht Kamiel Klaasse Víctor Navarro Aaron Betsky 07/06/14 Biennale di Venezia Francis Rambert Antón García-Abril Kent Martinussen Miguel Roldán Beth Galí Valéry Didelon Ibai Rigby Ricardo Devesa Kjetil Trædal Thorsen Francesc Rius Peer Teglgaard Jeppesen Sebastian Behmann Osbjørn Jacobsen Jürgen Mayer H.
