FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Bonnie Franklin: [email protected] or Rosa Diaz-Mulryan: [email protected] February 10, 2005 SLIDE HAMPTON PRESENTS A SALUTE TO ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM AT RAMAPO COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY Mahwah) – The sounds of Rio and Ipanema will float through the Sharp Theater at Ramapo College when an all-star band led by legendary trombonist and arranger Slide Hampton returns to the College Saturday, March 19 at 8 p.m. Jazz at the Berrie Center presents Bossa Nova Nights, Slide Hampton’s Salute to Antonio Carlos Jobim. Brazilian vocalist Maucha Adnet, who toured with Jobim the last decade of his life, will reprise the bossas and sambas so familiar to the world, including “Desafinado” and “How Insensitive.” Antonio Carlos Jobim, who died in 1994, was a Brazilian composer and songwriter. His arrangements combined modernist classical touches with a suave swing similar to North American “cool” jazz. Jobim pioneered bossa nova, and wrote many of the genre’s greatest hits including “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Desafinado.” The bossa nova was popularized worldwide in the early 1960s. Tickets for Bossa Nova Nights are $23 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $12 for youth. The Sharp Theater is located at the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts on the Ramapo College campus. For more information call 201.684.7844. This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. # # # #.
