#becauseofCLD January 2020 Community Learning and Development in Dundee Keep Fit and Healthy with our Walking Groups The Community Health Team have several walks across the city. The walks are popular and are attended by people of all ages. The walks last between 30 and 60 minutes and are followed by a cup of tea/coffee and refreshments. Due to the popularity of the walks it was necessary to recruit more volunteers to help them run smoothly. On Tuesday 3rd December 2019 five people attended Walk Leader training and gained their certificate. Congratulations to June Thomson, Mary Guthrie, Frank Mitchell, Ann Murray and Lindsey Eppy. Two of our volunteers were also presented with their Heartstart Certificates. Congratulations to Fraser Carmichael and Sylvia Anderson. To contact your local435808 Communities or email Officer to find out how you can get involved across the city call Ardler Local Management Group The Ardler Local Management Group (LMG) held their annual Christmas Wonderland event on the afternoon of Saturday the 14th of December. The event was attended by over two thousand people and was a great success. Activities included a Christmas train, real reindeer, Santa’s Grotto, inflatables, table top sale, pampering station, helter skelter, café, sweetie shop and lots more activities for all the family. The event was organised by members of the LMG who also work tirelessly to ensure that Ardler Complex is transformed into a winter wonderland each December. 436442. If you’d like to get involved, please contact 2 Friends of Clatto Friends of Clatto are a newly formed group and have been very active in the short time since they formed. Some activities/improvements the group have been involved in include: removal of weeds/grass, planting spring time bulbs and wild flowers and painting. They have also worked with a local graffiti artist who has designed a new piece of work on the roller shutters of Terry the Terrapin and tidying up the kingfisher at the far end of the pond. The group are looking to hold events throughout the coming year and would appreciate new members. The charity provides services where users pay a small fee to access our larder products and shopping bags. With this initiative, the larder hope to spare people from the stigma of food banks so they can get some extra help as and when they require. No means testing is involved for people wishing to access the Larder. The Larder also gives people the opportunity to volunteer and are always looking for new volunteers. The Larder is held every Thursday between 1pm and 3pm from Kirkton Community Centre. The Kirkton Community Larder is ran in association with the Kirkton Local Management Group, Kirkton Community Partnership, ASDA and Fareshare.
