EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.1 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION:- Education is the main key of all round development of a man and a society. Keeping this in mind, Joya Gogoi College was established in 25th Nov/1991 at Khumtai of Golaghat District with a vision of “Imparting Quality Higher Education for all round development of the students in particular & neighbouring rural community in general”. Every member of the college family has been working hard and trying their best efforts for greater interest of the college. The College is affiliated to Dibrugarh University and comes under provincialized system of Govt. of Assam in 2006. At present the college offers three year Degree course (B.A.) in Arts in Semester / CBCS system ,two years Higher Secondary Course (Arts/Science) in annual system, Introductory Computer Education, Performing art, epoch making thinker Swami Vivekananda study centre , KKHSOU(B.A,BMC,BCA, M.A. IN EDUCATION, ASSAMESE, POL. SCIENCE PROGRAMME UNDER KKHSOU study centre in the college), Skill development training courses on a) Cutting , Tailoring and Embroidery b)Hair stylist, Beautician & cosmetology c)Asst. Electrician d)food Processing etc. Besides these it occasionally organizes various Job- oriented/ career oriented training programmes, Seminars, talks, co-curricular activities and also community & students’ welfare programmes. Subjects offered include English, Assamese , Political Science, History, Education, Economics, Mathematics & Environmental study. Major Courses are offered in Assamese, English, Education, Economics, History & Political Science. The TDC (B.A) course in CBCS system starts from the Academic Year 2019. On the other hand the college is happy to introduce science stream from the session 2019 by offering elective subjects-Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Computer science along with compulsory subjects Gen.English and MIL/Alt. English. The College was assessed by NAAC in first cycle on 23rd & 24th Aug/ 2004 accredited by c+ grade for five years and in second cycle on 19-20 Aug/2011 by B grade. During the post accreditation period the IQAC which is constituted as per NAAC guidelines have been performing well. Now the IQAC together with other existing committees/sub-committees have prepared this Self- study Report for Re-accreditation (3rd cycle) of the college by NAAC. To organize vocational/career oriented/job-oriented training programmes in different field of work to the rural students/people. To innovate quality teaching/learning & evaluation. To organize seminars, workshops, educational field tour etc. To provide necessary learning resources. To encourage staff to pursue Ph.D. programme, undertake minor & major research projects. To maintain discipline, punctuality and also accountability. To inculcate social, moral & spiritual values. 1.2 Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Challenges(SWOC) Institutional Strength Institutional Strength 1. Empowerment of socially & economically weaker section of the society irrespective of caste, creed, religion etc. Since the college is situated in a rural economically and socially backward region. Students have limited facilities for education. 2. Dedicated, Qualified and experienced faculty and staff. All the teachers and staff have done hard work for greater interest of the institution from the very inception. 3. Free admission to economically weak/BPL students. Since the students come from economically backward family so we are providing free admission to them. 4. Low fees structure in comparison to other colleges such that higher education is affordable to the economically weaker students. Students could not afford the higher amount of fee structure so college offers low fee structure to students. 5. Organizing educational extension programmes for benefit of the students. Since class room education is not sufficient for quality education so to provide quality higher education the college organizes educational extension programme such as educational tours, workshops, seminars, quiz, NSS activities etc. 6. Students friendly academic environment having scientific library, common room, calm and quite environment, conference room, internet facility, computer centre etc. 7. Continuous and comprehensive evaluations such as sessional test, unit test, seminar, group discussion, class test etc. 8. Maintenance of ragging free Environment. By regular mentoring, installing CCTV camera, organizing awareness programme. 9. Well stocked& well furnished scientific library having text book, journal, news paper. 10. Student satisfaction in teaching/learning/ evaluation and other support facilities. 11. Student democracy/regularity 12. Girls’ Hostel facility with warden. 13. Sports facility with well equipped indoor stadium. 14. There is an eco-friendly environment in the college. The college maintain green campus by tree plantation, gardening and beautification. 15. Inculcation of Institutional social responsibility by organizing extension activities. 17. Silver Jubilee celebration of the college in the year 2016 by organizing many colorful, meaningful and beneficial activities along with all the stakeholders. 18. Wi-Fi facilities, CCTV installation 19. Student centric teaching-learning environment Institutional Weakness Institutional Weakness 1. Lack of proper initiative to reduce unemployment problem as per students’ expectation. Majority of the students have aim in life to engage in a job for economic benefit. 2. Lack of strong initiative to create national & international level of competitive environment for the students’ progression. College should provide coaching classes to the students to appear competitive examinations like APSC, Bank examinations, TET, PET etc. 3. Lack of meritorious students’ enrollment. Since the college is situated in a rural and educationally backward environment and the feeder schools have no quality product of students. 4. Limited range of programme option. Since the college has been providing only Arts stream and science stream has just been introduced with six subjects. Student need more programme options. 5. Lack of required fund for infrastructure development such as permanent boys’ hostel, boys’ /girl’s permanent common room, modern well-equipped playground, cultural hall and Teachers’ quarters and other necessary buildings. Though we have received RUSA grant and Govt. of Assam grant for infrastructure development which was not sufficient to construct the above facilities. 6. The college is yet to obtain the special status of a University with Potential for Excellence, UGC-CPE, DST Star Scheme, UGC-CE, UGC-Special Assistance Programme, DST-FIST, UGC-Innovative PG programmes or UGC-COP Programmes. 7. Limited number of permanent teachers in comparison to requirement as the state government has not sanctioned new posts for the last 20 years. Since for introduction of CBCS system and science stream, classes are increased, the permanent teachers could not accommodate all the classes. 8. Lack of full-fledged health care centre. Sometimes the students fell ill during college hours we have to take the students to nearby Khumtai PHE hospital. 9. Lack of strong Industry-Institute interaction/collaboration. For quality education it is necessary collaboration with industry/institute for upgradation of their knowledge and also job placement. 10. Lack of strong students’ placement strategy. Since the students have aim in life to engage in a job after completion of higher education. The college should provide placement facilities such that they can establish in life. Institutional Opportunity Institutional Opportunity 1. The college has the opportunity to start more programmes of studies which are relevant in the local context having focus on the skill development /agriculture based/ self help group production and marketing. 2. The college can enhance employability of the students. Since the students are very interested to engage in employment after completing higher education. The college may initiate scope for development of sports infrastructure and initiative for better results in sports events. 4. The college can start PG programme under regular mode. 5.
