What you do is going to make a difference.” Madeleine L’Engle. Our Earth is an one, incredibly large ecosystem, Bumi adalah sebuah ekosistem besar yang whose future depends on the actions of just one masa depannya sangat bergantung pada creature: mankind. To conserve just one species may sound like a small, easy Upaya pelestarian satu spesies mungkin terdengar task. However, this is not the case. It involves much more than sederhana. Namun begitu, ini butuh lebih banyak dari simply taking action on the ground in their native habitat. sekadar bekerja di di habitat alami mereka. Mencegah Saving a species from the brink of extinction goes further than kepunahan satu spesies, bukan sekadar melindungi merely protecting its populations. Our 29 years of experience populasinya. Pengalaman selama 29 tahun mengajarkan have taught us that in order to protect one species, you kami bahwa untuk bisa melestarikan satu spesies, kita also need to protect its habitat. Therefore, our orangutan juga perlu melindungi habitatnya. Oleh karena itu, kerja 4 ANNUAL REPORT 2019 | LAPORAN TAHUNAN 2019 conservation work is deeply tied to the preservation of forests in Kalimantan, and the orangutan’s role in maintaining these forest ecosystems. Our approach to orangutan conservation focuses on four main areas – orangutan reintroduction, sanctuary care, conservation of wild populations and habitats, and sustainable community empowerment. Over the years, we have also learned that conservation is a huge undertaking that requires partnership and dedication from all stakeholders, no matter their role in today’s world and their relationship to orangutan habitat. We are willing to work together with those who wish to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. We welcome all parties who understand that preserving orangutans and their habitats is a shared responsibility. In the past 29 years, we have taken in more than 2,500 orangutans at our two rehabilitation centres in Central and East Kalimantan, to be cared for and guided through the long rehabilitation process in preparation for their return to the wild. While we have been able to release most of the rescued orangutans through translocation or reintroduction, the grim fact remains that there are still hundreds of orangutans in our rehabilitation centres who, due to their compromised health, advanced age, or lack of skills and natural behaviours, have slim to no chance of being released. For this group - referred to as the ‘unreleasables’ - we have built forested island sanctuaries in Central and East Kalimantan. Life on the islands gives these individuals a sense of freedom in an environment similar to that of a natural forest, but with all the human support necessary they need to survive. Dr. Ir. At the same time, through BOS Foundation melepasliarkan 76 orangutan kembali ke our #OrangutanFreedom campaign, we released 76 hutan dalam 12 kegiatan pelepasliaran, dan memindahkan orangutans back to the forest in 12 release events, and 59 orangutan yang telah menyelesaikan tahapan rehabilitasi transferred 59 orangutans that had completed their ke pulau-pulau pra-pelepasliaran. Kami juga bekerja rehabilitation to pre-release islands.
