CATALOGUE 2020 CATALOGUE UNITEL AVANT PREMIÈRE CATALOGUE 2020 “Nothing but a sensation!” (SWR2) The open-air lake stage in Bregenz is one of the most spectacular opera venues in the world, requiring a long and careful planning. Stage designer and director Philipp Stölzl, set designer Heike Vollmer and a large group of experts involving more than 46 engineering companies from Austria, Germany and Switzerland spent three years planning, adapting and building the scenery. Therefore Rigoletto was the natural choice as Unitel’s first opera produced in staggering Ultra High Definition with Dolby Vision & Atmos. The result is a “breathtaking, tight and thrilling arrangement, extremely beautiful. Philipp Stölzl delivers a superlative Rigoletto to Bregenz lake stage” (Frankfurter Rundschau). See page 25 (opera performance) and page 54 (documentary) for details. Photo: Anja Köhler MUSIC TO WATCH since 1966 “What do we see when we listen, when we really listen to music?” Most of us would find this question difficult to answer. But back in the 1960s, one man knew what he wanted to see: the world’s best performers captured on film of the highest quality and with a sound to rival the concert hall’s. And he decided to do something about it. Leo Kirch was this man, and the company he founded in 1966 has been dedicated to realizing his dream ever since. Unitel, now part of Jan Mojto’s corporate group, has soon become the world’s leading producer of classical music programs for film, television, DVD & Blu-ray and Digital Media. This Avant Premiere 2020 catalogue presents all additions from the year 2019 to Unitel’s catalogue, which in total features more than 2.000 performances of operas, orchestral music, chamber music, ballets and operettas, as well as musical essays, backstage footage, portraits and documentaries. Unitel has always placed the greatest emphasis on quality, which extends to all aspects of the production: from the artists to the technology. This means that Unitel has always been at the forefront of new technological developments , always searching for the most authentic, faithful ways of duplicating and heightening the musical experience. With this catalogue we proudly present not only our first production in Dolby Vision · Atmos, but also nine of Unitel’s most legendary programs remastered by NHK to stunning 8K Super High Vision and 22.2 sound, see page 56.
