I InterSystems DeepSee ® embeds capabilities for real-time analytics in applications built on Caché or Ensemble. I InterSystems iKnow ™ automatically derives concepts and relationships from text and other unstructured data to quickly deliver pinpoint access, intelligent summaries, and streamlined navigation, without the need to build complex ontologies or rules. I InterSystems HealthShare ® is a health informatics platform that enables strategic interoperability and analytics for action — within a hospital network, and across a community, region, or nation. I InterSystems TrakCare ® is a unified, Internet-based healthcare information system that rapidly provides an electronic patient record. It is not available in the United States. European Space Agency , Spain The European Space Agency is mapping a billion stars in the Milky Way In 2013, the European Space Agency (ESA) launched an ambitious mission to chart a three-dimensional map of the Milky Way. Because an enormous amount of data had to be quickly stored and analyzed, ESA selected Caché as the advanced database technology to support the scientific processing of the Gaia mission. The Gaia satellite will spend five years monitoring a billion stars in our galaxy. It will collect data on each of them about 70 times, precisely measuring their positions, distances, movements, and changes in brightness. It is expected that the Gaia mission will discover hundreds of thousands of new celestial objects, such as extrasolar planets and failed stars called brown dwarfs. Within our own solar system, Gaia is expected to observe hundreds of thousands of asteroids. All of this adds up to an astronomical “With Caché, we obtain considerably more amount of data to be collected and superior performance and scalability than analyzed. A key element of the Gaia is possible with other databases.” satellite is the Astrometric Global Iterative William O’Mullane, Scientific Operations Manager, Solution (AGIS), which iteratively refines Gaia Mission the spatial accuracy of all the Gaia measure - ments. In the course of its operation, AGIS must be able to insert up to 50 billion Java objects into a database within seven days. Caché is the only database ESA found that could provide the necessary performance and scalability with only moderate hardware requirements. The key is advanced technology, found only in Caché, which allows Java objects to be inserted directly into the multidimensional structures used by the Caché database. Says William O’Mullane, scientific operations manager of the Gaia mission for ESA, “With Caché, we obtain considerably more superior performance and scalability than is possible with other databases.” The information Gaia collects will allow scientists to learn a great deal about the origin, structure, and evolutionary history of our galaxy. 3 4 5 National Health Laboratory Service, South Africa South Africa’s largest pathology organization supports 4,400 clinics and hospitals in the fight against HIV/AIDS The National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) of South Africa has successfully completed the first of two phases of deployment for TrakCare Lab. The consoli - dated laboratory service is a key part of the government’s program to improve the management of pandemic and chronic illnesses, including drug-resistant tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and overall healthcare service delivery. The NHLS handles all public health sector pathology testing and provides an extensive “We undertook an extensive, array of research and disease monitoring in-depth evaluation of leading services designed to support the 4,000 clinics LIMS products before deciding and 400 hospitals in the South African public that the TrakCare Lab system is healthcare system — a platform that supports the optimal choice for NHLS.” seamless integration and connectivity for multi - Sagie Pillay, CEO, NHLS ple applications and information repositories. In a country of 45 million, this system provides healthcare services for the approximately 38 million citizens who are uninsured. NHLS supports the National Department of Health and employs 6,500 people at more than 250 laboratories throughout the country. KwaZuluNatal, a province in South Africa’s southeast, is the epicenter of the world’s HIV/AIDS epidemic. But thanks to the rapid turnaround of test results made possible by TrakCare Lab, KwaZuluNatal is seeing faster access to treatment for its large HIV-positive population. The program is implementing TrakCare Lab on a network that utilizes the InterSystems Caché high-performance database as a centralized repository. It also uses InterSystems Ensemble, a platform for integration and the development of connectable applications, to enable the smooth integration and connection of multiple applications and information repositories. Sagie Pillay, CEO of NHLS, says, “We have seen the need for pathology services increase by 106% over the last four years. With this ever-increasing demand for top-tier testing and disease-monitoring services, it was essential to implement a world-class laboratory information management system (LIMS). We undertook an extensive, in-depth evaluation of leading LIMS products before deciding that the TrakCare Lab system is the optimal choice for NHLS.” TrakCare is not available in the United States. 6 Companhia Brasileira de Petróleo Ipiranga SA, Brazil Ipiranga cuts integration costs by 50% In order to adapt to norms defined by Brazil’s State Secretaries of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service, the Brazilian petroleum company Ipiranga opted for a commercial NF-e application that needed to be integrated with their existing software systems. That decision created another big challenge: managing the complexity involved in integrating the NF-e solution with ABADI (Automation of Ipiranga’s Bases and Deposits), the company’s billing system. Ipiranga solved this issue by using Ensemble. According to Betsy Rabello, Ipiranga’s administrative systems advisor, three key facets of InterSystems’ integration technology were fundamental to the decision: “Ensemble’s perform - ance, robustness, and stability were beyond any doubt the product’s strong points. We have used Ensemble as our only integration platform since 2005. In addition, ABADI runs on Caché, which also influenced our decision,” she explains. The project was concluded in approximately ten months. Ensemble made it possible to simplify NF-e application resources, transforming them into services and isolating the application’s complexity in order to integrate it with ABADI. “Besides generating significant savings and offering us the chance to use the SOA concept, Ensemble provided us with much faster development and allowed us to run system maintenance in a much simpler manner,” says Rabello. Ipiranga also used Ensemble technology for “Ensemble’s performance, robustness, all the integrations needed to implement and stability were beyond any doubt its Siebel CRM software. Says Rabello, “We the product’s strong points.” mapped all the integrations to be devel - Betsy Rabello, Administrative Systems Advisor, Ipiranga oped, encompassing integrations for ERP, ABADI, the maintenance and equipment management system, our business portal, and others. Out of a total of 33 integrations, approximately 16 services were used again, so we obtained a cost savings of about 50%.” According to Eduardo Coelho, executive director of Visão Virtual, the InterSystems partner responsible for developing the integrations in these two Ipiranga projects, these kinds of initiatives show the potential of InterSystems technology. “We would be unable to do this without Ensemble. Of course, you need a trained and efficient team, with technical knowledge, but the robustness and performance of this platform are impressive,” Coelho says. 7 8 9 National Health Service, Scotland Scotland creates nationwide electronic patient records InterSystems is playing an important
