The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is the University’s largest research faculty. World- class researchers work across disciplines including laboratory-based medical science, applied clinical research, and social and public health research. For more information, please visit http://www.med.monash.edu.my/research/priorities/brims Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences Professional Staff Organizational Chart- Brain Research Institute Monash Head of Neuroscience Senior School Manager Senior Executive (BRIMS) 2 Position purpose This position is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support to the Head of Neuroscience on matters pertaining to BRIMS research activities. The position is also responsible for initiating and managing systems and procedures that ensure the efficient and effective operation of research and development (R&D) activities within BRIMS. The incumbent has the administrative responsibility of organizing and coordinating a number of the institute’s events and requires the incumbent to have a detailed understanding of all aspects of research and higher degree policies and procedures in the School, the Faculty and the University as a whole. Reporting line: The position reports to Senior School Manager with dotted reporting to the Head of Neuroscience . Supervisory responsibilities: Nil . Financial delegation and/or budget responsibilities Administration of the BRIMS cost center of RM2.3 million Key result areas and responsibility 1) Executive support to the Head of Neuroscience and to relevant committee Provide advice to the Head of Neuroscience on policies and administrative systems related to research. Provide advice and consultation to postgraduate candidates and prospective candidates. Provide advice on improvements to management and administrative R&D practices at BRIMS. Provide comprehensive and timely reports on research activities within BRIMS, including status reports on research income (under various income streams), grant applications, publications and projects management. Systematically document and collate all BRIMS publication reports. 2) Administration of internal research grants and fellowship schemes Advise the Head of Neuroscience on policies pertaining to internal grants, scholarships and other finance procedures. Manage the administration of various grant schemes. Provide high level support to researchers in grant application processes and assists researchers in the management of their grants which includes the development of a record of applications. Maintain research budget for BRIMS, which includes the monitoring of all research project expenditure. Work closely with the Senior School Manager and Head of Neuroscience to plan the annual budget for BRIMS. 3) Administration of research seminar series, workshops and conferences In consultation with the Marketing and Future Students unit, develop postgraduate program brochures and coordinate R&D events such as research conferences and workshops. This includes all publicity work prior to the events. Plan and update the calendar of BRIMS research and postgraduate events. 4) Management of postgraduate programs 3 Responsible for the administration of policies, procedures and processes pertaining to higher degree by research in BRIMS and ensure it is in accordance with the Faculty and University guidelines. Coordinate the matching of prospective HDR candidates with suitable supervisors. Develop and maintain policies, procedures and administrative system for BRIMS R&D activities ensuring that they are in accordance with the Faculty, University and Campus policies, procedures and information needs, and that they are appropriately promulgated to staff, researchers and research students within BRIMS. Develop and maintain the R&D web site for BRIMS, ensuring that it is properly integrated with Campus and University sites. Oversee the BRIMS Seminar Series in addition to developing and coordinating weekly seminars for BRIMS. Manage the physical research resource available at BRIMS, i.e. Research Labs and equipment. Liaise with Research Management Office on any matters regarding R&D policies and procedures. Liaise with Research Managers from other school and faculties. Monash Research Graduate School and the University Ethics Committee. 5) Business development Drive industry engagement in developing business opportunities and securing collaborative and contract research funding. Coordinate with academic institutes/industry on MoU/MoA. Assist in the administration of patenting and commercialization of BRIMS research products. Undertake other specific and/or related tasks, roles and duties as assigned from time to time by the Senior School Manager or Head of Neuroscience. Key selection criteria Relevant degree and/or experience in administration preferable in a research institute/academia.
