CREATING RESPONSIBLE ACADEMIA STRENGTHENING SCIENCE FIRMAMENT Presently ISC has 40 interna onal scien fi c Unions/ Associa ons and over 140 regional and na onal scien fi c bodies. INSA enables par cipa on of Indian Scien sts in Interna onal programmes/congresses through its associa on with ISC, IAP, TWAS, AASSA, etc. and through its bilateral exchange programs. It also conducts numerous ac vi es to enhance scien fi c temper. Interna onal Science Council As per the decision of the Government of India, INSA is the only adhering organisa on that can represent India in the interna onal Science programs of Interna onal Science Council (ISC). Thus, INSA represents India, in 27 interna onal unions of ISC. INSA also caters to the adherence of India in other interna onal programs like the Programs on Polar Ice Caps, Interna onal Geosphere Biosphere Program, and the Future Earth. Indian ac vi es corresponding to each of the Interna onal Union are coordinated through a commi ee of experts selected on the basis of their domain exper se keeping in mind the ins tu onal, regional and gender representa on. The Na onal Commi ees for Interna onal Unions plan for the scien fi c ac vi es in India and for Indian representa on in the ac vi es of the council. Currently, based on their nomina ons by the Na onal Commi ees, about 100 scien sts occupy important posi ons in various unions. INSA also encourages and supports, Indian bids for interna onal congresses and other regional scale programs and, has an excellent track record of success in these eff orts. Recent merger of ICSU and Interna onal Social Science Council (ISSC), resulted in forma on of Interna onal Science Council (ISC). Inter-Academy Partnership INSA played a major role in the forma on of Inter-Academy Partnership (IAP) that evolved from earlier Inter-Academy Panel founded in 1994. The IAP now has 130-members with a focus on co-opera ve ac vi es in Science, Health and Research, and, more recently on the UN ini a ves on Sustainable Development Goals and the Commonwealth IAP Conference held during September 28–30, 2015 in INSA premises ini a ve on Global Change.
