RED DRAGONS FootBALL 2011 TEam Guide Cortland Earns NJAC Crown, NCAA Berth and Cortaca Win in 2010 The SUNY Cortland football team finished the 2010 season with a 10-2 record. The team shared the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title, earned the league’s NCAA Division III playoff automatic berth and advanced to the second round of the national tournament. The Red Dragons won at least 10 games for the second time in three years. Cortland showed off a flair for the dramatic when it mattered most. Facing a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit and elimination from the NJAC playoff race at home versus Montclair State University, the Red Dragons scored the final 10 points and sweated out a last-second missed field goal by the guests for a 10-9 victory. Two weeks later, Cortland again had fans on the edge of their seats. Trailing 17-3 to rival Ithaca College in the annual Cortaca Jug game in front of more than 10,000 fans at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex, the Red Dragons rallied for a 20-17 victory behind sophomore tailback Justin Autera’s 232 rushing yards – a Cortaca Jug record. Cortland earned its second NCAA berth in three seasons and opened the postseason by defeating Endicott College, 49-35, at home in the first round. In the second round against visiting Alfred University, the Red Dragons fell behind 20-3 early in the third quarter. Cortland twice clawed back to within seven points before losing 34-20 to finish tied for ninth nationally. Autera, senior defensive lineman Lou Crispo, junior offensive Cody Allen led the Red Dragons with 105 total tackles, including nine or more lineman Billy Castro and senior cornerback Joe Lopez each stops in seven of 12 games.
