JUNE / JULY 2011 www.jazzhusmontmartre.dk Jazzhus Montmartre · Store Regnegade 19A · 1110 Copenhagen K · Denmark Café open Mon-Fri from 12, Sat from 10 · Dinner booking at (+45) 31 72 34 94 Ticket booking at (+45) 70 15 65 65 DANISH-NORWEGIAN STAR TRIO FRIDAY CARSTEN DAHL TRIO Jun 03 20.00 (8pm) Carsten Dahl (piano / DK), Arild Andersen (bass / NO), Jon Christensen (drums / NO) DKK 375 Carsten Dahl started out on drums (with Alex Riel as his teacher!), but after SATURDAY two years at the music conservatory he instead went on to playing piano, and he has never looked back since. He never received any training and yet Jun 04 he has worked his way to play with the likes of Ed Thigpen, Randy Brecker 20.00 (8pm) and Joe Lovano and along the way received numerous prizes including Danish Winner of the Jazzpar 2000. It is obvious why Carsten Dahl is Den- DKK 375 mark’s most wanted jazz pianist, and at Montmartre we are happy to finally presenting his latest trio project featuring two of Norway’s most prominent jazz artists: Arild Andersen whom we are not afraid to call one of Europe’s leading bass players today, and Jon Christensen, a true innovator and original on drums. HANS ULRIK / LARS JANSSON QUARTET IN SUPREME TRIBUTE THURSDAY A LOVE SUPREME Jun 09 JOHN COLTRANE TRIBUTE 20.00 (8pm) DKK 350 Hans Ulrik (sax / DK), Lars Jansson (piano / SE) Thomas Fonnesbæk (bass / DK), FRIDAY Paul Svanberg (drums / DK) Jun 10 The album A Love Supreme stands out as John Coltrane’s contribution to the nu- 20.00 (8pm) merous lists of greatest jazz albums of all times. At this point of his too short ca- reer he seemed to have reached his personal peak and clarity as a musician with a DKK 350 mission. But already before, and also after, Coltrane kept composing and playing SATURDAY classic and varied styles of jazz pieces that generations after him still embrace. At Montmartre we have invited a carefully chosen team to present and master the Jun 11 Coltrane musical heritage. Both Hans Ulrik and Lars Jansson are known for their 20.00 (8pm) melodic persuasion, great swing and ability to capture the core soul of a song, DKK 350 which have often brought them to work outside the Scandinavian borders. On bass they are bringing Thomas Fonnesbæk and on drums Paul Svanberg. MULTIFACETED WORLD CLASS DRUMMER THURSDAY PETER ERSKINE QUARTET Jun 16 20.00 (8pm) Peter Erskine (drums / US), Benjamin Koppel (sax / DK), TBA (piano), Johannes Weidenmueller (bass / DE) DKK 375 FRIDAY Peter Erskine is perhaps today’s most in demand drummer. Early in his career in the 1970’s he was part of the notorious rhythm section in Weather Report Jun 17 together with Jaco Pastorius. Later he would move on to playing several big 20.00 (8pm) bands as well as adding his musicality to artist projects such as those of Kate Bush, Diana Krall and Queen Latifah. With a very versatile style and understand- DKK 375 ing of music, Peter Erskine is, besides touring and recording also composing and SATURDAY arranging music for theater, dance, film and television. At our jazz club he will introduce us a newcomer to the Montmartre, but certainly not newcomer to the Jun 18 international jazz scene, and by the way Peter Erskine’s own favourite bass player, 20.00 (8pm) Johannes Weidenmueller. DKK 375 INTERCULTURAL SOUNDS FROM DANISH STAR TRIO FRIDAY BLUE LOTUS FEAT. MIKKEL NORDSØ Jun 24 TINE REHLING AND OLE THEILL 20.00 (8pm) DKK 225 Mikkel Nordsø (guitar / DK), Tine Rehling (harp / DK), Ole Theill (tablas / DK) The Blue Lotus project has already been presented abroad and as far away as Brazil to sold out concerts and raving reviews. Now, in Copenhagen, Jazzhus Montmartre proudly presents a trio project in the borderland of jazz, Indian and classical music with Denmark’s most famous guitarist, most busy harpist and most imaginative drummer. We are talking Mikkel Nordsø, Tine Rehling and Ole Teill and together they give us music with edge, vitality and virtuosity – a pure luxury life performance in the fine acoustics of Montmartre! TRIBUTE TO A MASTER AND A MENTOR SATURDAY CHRISTINA VON BÜLOW Jun 25 ’GETZ ALUMNI’ 20.00 (8pm) DKK 275 Christina von Bülow (sax / DK), Ben Besiakov (piano / DK), Daniel Franck (bass / DK), Frands Rifbjerg (drums / DK) Legendary Stan Getz’ impact on Denmark is not only found in the history of Montmartre, but also in the present of Danish saxophonist Christina von Bülow’s playing. Stan Getz was the sound that came out of the speakers in her childhood home as well as the teacher who would later introduce her to the world behind that characteristic sound. Christina von Bülow describes her meeting with Stan Getz as inspirational to the level of placing Getz as a mentor with a big influence on her development as a musician. At this one night only concert, Christina von Bülow presents those Stan Getz tunes that has influenced her the most and also shows us the truly remarkable musician she has become. With her she brings the strong quartet she has collaborated with so many times before: Ben Besiakov on piano, Daniel Franck on bass and Frands Rifbjerg on drums. MODERN JAZZ DRUMMER IN RESIDENCE AT MONTMARTRE FRIDAY ADAM NUSSBAUM PRESENTS Jun 30 KIND OF BLUE REVISITED 20.00 (8pm) DKK 440 Adam Nussbaum (drums /US), Gerard Presencer (trumpet / UK), Benjamin Koppel (alto sax / DK), Michael Bladt (tenor sax / DK), Thomas Clausen (piano / DK), Morten Ramsbøl (bass / DK) Modern jazz’ most versatile drummer Adam Nussbaum impresses his audiences no matter what advanced setting he plays in. He has regularly performed with Dave Lieb- man and John Scofield, and has freelanced among Stan Getz, Gil Evans, James Moody, Joe Henderson, Lee Konitz and many more. During his 5-night stay at Montmartre he continues to take the stage in different settings. The night before the Copenhagen Jazz Festival officially starts Nussbaum joins forces with a Copenhagen-based all-star team and revisits the iconic Miles Davis album Kind of Blue. In February our tribute concert to one of jazz’ most significant albums sold out quickly. Now Montmartre presents another chance to catch this exclusive act, jazz history performed live on a historic stage.
