The project is a product of the San Francisco Planning Department’s ambitious Pavement to Parks Program- through which more than 60 parklets have installed by merchants, neighborhoods, nonprofits, and other organizations. The new planted medians, rain gardens, and street trees provided a 700% increase in pervious area, diverting approximately 1.2 million gallons of stormwater from the Cumberland River per year..
