30th June 2017 34 Dear all, It was wonderful to come together as a full school for our assembly on Wednesday morning. Year 10 students shared a series of poems with our school to support us in reflecting on the terrible tragedies that our country has experienced and how we can make an active choice to pursue peace, to be kind and to help others despite adversity. I shared with students a fitting memorial and one we could perhaps all currently choose to adopt. During the English Civil War Sir Robert Shirley built the stunning Staunton Harold Church, in Leicestershire, and erected a moving memorial plaque: “When all things sacred were throughout the nation either destroyed or profaned, Sir Robert Shirley, Baronet, founded this church whose singular praise is to have done the best of things in the worst of times and hoped them in the most calamitous”. Words, I certainly believe are worth holding onto and striving for. This week has been one of so many successes; with further wins on the athletics field and incredible performances by our ArcherShop choir at St Jude’s proms. Additionally, Year 10 have taken part in an excellent SRE Day which included a moving presentation by an ex-offender and enjoyed a Taster Day at Woodhouse College. The Principal of Woodhouse College, John Rubinstein, has already commented on how impressed his staff were with our students today and we are delighted to have already afforded them the opportunity of an experience of 6th form life. Next week is a busy one, as we look forward to welcoming our Year 6 families for their Induction Week events. It seems hard to believe that our September 2017 cohort will make our school full for the first time and that we will be 5 years old as a school. However, with 53 siblings in the cohort I know we have many experienced hands! We look forward to taking Year 7, Year 8 and Year 10 on their trip days on Thursday. Please do check emails carefully in relation to payments, timings and required equipment. Year 9 have gone off to Stubbers for the weekend today (we wish them a wonderful time) and they will spend Thursday taking part in their SRE day at Upper School. These will be distributed via school reception where the students can collect them. Owing to the number of students involved advance booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment as we have a limited number of seats available. Thank you so much to Peter Copley for programme design once again this year. RESTART PARTY – Mr Pearson Come and get your electronics fixed at the Archer Academy’s Restart Party! Tuesday 4 July, 2pm-4pm, 3 Beaumont Close, The Bishops Avenue, London N2 0GA. If you’ve got any broken electronics kicking around, bring them along to the Archer Academy’s Restart Party on 4 July and we’ll help you sort them out. Our Year 10s have been working with engineers from Restart, a social enterprise that teaches people how to save electronics from the scrapheap. They’ll either fix your item, or give you advice about what to try next; either way, they’re bound to save you some money. We want to fix as many items as we can for the people in our community, so please share the news with your friends and neighbours – and bring your broken stuff along to us on the day. And if you’re an engineer – or just a bit handy – and would like to come and help, we’d love to have you; please email us on [email protected] putting Restart Party help as the subject.
