INTRODUCTION The Chemical Hygiene Plan is a written program developed and implemented by Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to ensure the safety of employees whose work involves the laboratory use of hazardous chemicals. It sets forth the policies, procedures, and practices, both for employees who work with hazardous chemicals and for those whose responsibilities include the support of such work. Regulatory Basis The development and implementation of the Chemical Hygiene Plan was mandated by the final rule on "Occupational Exposures to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories" (commonly known as the OSHA Lab Safety Standard). This rule has been incorporated into subpart Z of 29 CFR 1910 and is required to be implemented by January 31, 1991. Appendix I of this plan is a copy of the rule as published in the Federal Register on January
