Chris began his professional teaching career in 1972 and has been a full time Headteacher since 1985. As far as Steyning is concerned, this has been an eventful period for the school which was completely rebuilt some 4 years after Chris joined us and provides the wonderful environment that our children and grandchildren are able to enjoy today. Besides the addition of a dedicated Nurture Group classroom in 2014, following a generous grant from the Wilson Memorial Trust, Chris’ final legacy to the school will be the newly refurbished library currently under construction and paid for from the funds raised by the Friends of Steyning Primary School. Immediately after the Easter holidays, Sue Harrison, currently Headteacher at English Martyrs Primary School in Worthing will take up the reins. Sue, like Chris, joins us with a wealth of previous experience and we very much look forward to welcoming her to the school during the summer term. In closing, the Governors and staff would like to express their sincere thanks for all that Chris has done for the children of Steyning and wish him all the very best in his well-deserved retirement. Chris plans to continue to live in Steyning so will become an even more familiar face around the town over the months to come. David Herson Chair of Governors Steyning Primary School YS 4 Your Steyning April 2016 • www.yoursteyning.co.uk LOCAL NEWS Steyning Festival News Steyning Festival Yarn Bomb competition sponsored by Knitting for All. The Yarn Bomb is back! We tried this out in 2014 and it proved very popular so we are going to have another go. In case this is new to you, yarn bombing or guerrilla knitting is a type of street art that employs colourful displays of knitted, crochet or woven yarn or fibre. Yarn bombing can happen anywhere form lamp-posts to bicycles, trees to statues. The more colourful the better, this form of cosy art is designed to make us all smile and is just perfect for decorating the town during the festival. How to Yarn Bomb and enter the competition Choose somewhere to put your yarn bomb – a lamppost, a railing, a bench seat or a tree. Anything that you think would be cheered by your creation. Your own street, the High Street and Church Street are all good places and this years festival is centred around the Big Top Marquee in Cuthmans field so the more yarn we can get around there the better. Download a PDF with more information about this competition from the Steyning Festival website or contact: [email protected]. Growing Old Growing Wiser Writing Competition "Growing old is not for the faint-hearted", as somebody said, but obviously it's better than the alternative. Getting older does however bring with it the benefit of a lifetime's experience and it can also have its funny side. We would really like you to share your thoughts on this. So put your observations (funny or otherwise) onto paper or your computer or iPad, and send them to us. Visit the Steyning Festival website to download the competition details.
