E.H. Holden Car Club of Western Australia Inc Po Box 2159 Seville Grove W.A. 6112 Fax (08) 9409 2900 e-mail : [email protected] www.ehcarclubwa.org.au Pres’s pen Well, it's now over six months that I have been in the 'top job' and I'll get straight to the point and say that it has been a frustrating time thus far. I believe that you elected an excellent group of people to assist with running the club, but unfortunately many of you are not supporting the committee when you don't show up to events. This year is the 45th birthday of our beloved vehicle (the most popular Holden ever made) and we are fortunate that four major events (Whiteman Park, Brookton OTMS, Waroona and GM Owners’ Day) will be held this year. The organizers of Waroona have made a great trophy for us as it is an anniversary year and I will be disappointed if we as a club don't repay them by having a large display there this year. At the AGM we discussed the issue of Concession 404 vehicles and the attendance at club runs. The feeling from the floor was that these members may be taking advantage of the club to receive Concession 404. It was agreed that a mandatory number of runs (4), similar to that of the WAHolden Car Club, be introduced. The Committee has decided that Whiteman Park, Waroona, Donkin's / Ward's farm stays and the Christmas function are the four events that those members with concession 404 licenced cars must attend. Obviously if the vehicle is under restoration this may not be possible. FYI I will have my Prem wagon on Concession 404 this year so the above affects me as well. Another item to think about is the issue of EJ Holdens. I say this as we get a large number of enquires from EJ owners wishing to join the club. I have no issue with them being members and participating in club runs as it helps swell numbers and bring in much needed revenue. Speaking of new members it is pleasing to see that we are attracting an average of 6 a month. A warm welcome to you allfrom the Committee . In this issue you will see an update for theASR 2009. It seems that we are failing to support this event as the nominations from WAare quite low. Get onto Neil, send him a $100 to make sure you don't miss out on one of the biggest gatherings of EH ever seen in WA! Www.ehcarclubwa.org.au Finally, it was a sad day for me last month when the blue car went to a proud new owner who lives in Goomalling. We didn't want to sell her but when you have a sedan, a ute, a panel van, a wagon and a Monaro, the shed gets a bit full (those who attended the 'what's in ya shed night would know). I do however have Mitch O'Brien's comments a few years back ringing in my ears, that you will regret selling an EH. Finally the guys at Rex Spares in Osborne Park have been in my ear to push the free club banner. It was mentioned in the last newsletter but I'll do it again. Please purchase your replacement parts from Rex and inform them that you are a member of the club to get a 10% discount as well as assist us. Vera Nolan THE Goss Well is another year has flow by and the EH is now 45. The newsletter in its current form is 7 years old and the pages are getting harder to fill each time. The results of our survey showed that only 1 club member checks the web page for information about club runs. FYI the EHs by the lake run in January had a piss poor turn out. Committee member Emma had done a great job in securing a prime location for the club with a cordoned off car park at Lake Leschenaultia. What a great place for a Sunday BBQ. Cool water and a pontoon to do bombies off of! Ex President andASR co-organizer, Bob Hurrell has been sprung purchasing a Subaru as his Manly run a bout. This is his second misdemeanor as he rolled up to the Christmas party in a Commodore wagon! Sydney based artist Keith Pulver got in contact with us re his large range of Collectable Mugs, featuring early modelAussie Cars, Muscle Cars and Hotrods Each mug is made in Australia (that's rare in itself) and individually hand printed featuring a hand drawn sketch, the reverse side of the mug features the Holden logo. Check out www.mrmugs.com.au for more info. Holden has begun drip-feeding details of its eagerly-awaited Sportwagon. Yet there is still no clue to a release date. To keep the pot boiling GM Holden announced this week that there will be seven models of the sleek wagon with the choice of three engines a pair of V6s and a V8. Anyone with a lazy 55K can get themselves a CandyApple Red Prem Sedan. The car is a show car that can be driven if you wish. The car has taken 19 yrs to restore. It has a full bare metal respray top and bottom. Every nut and bolt on the car is brand new. It seems that the Fremantle Motor Museum has been given marching orders from the B shed. Word has it that the chick in charge of the PortAuthority doesn't like the old girls and wants them gone. As this is a private collection, and part of the York Museum the search is one for a suitable home. Midland rail yards have been mentioned as a possible home. Www.ehasr.org.au Perth's own Cruizin is Australia's original and longest running TV show of it's kind catering for enthusiasts of hot rods, customs, American cars, classics, muscle cars and street machines now going into the 9th year of production. Cruizin was first broadcast on Access 31 Television in Perth, Western Australia in 1999 and has now spread to all UHF 31 stations around Australia and also more recently into New Zealand via Triangle Television The Charger Club of WAis organising a track day at Wanneroo Raceway and would like to extend an invitation to us It is getting harder to organise an event at Wanneroo with the constant rising of costs associated to it and so they are endeavouring to get many clubs on board in order to minimise the cost for the day. The cost of the day around $100, some safety gear will be required your vehicles will be scrutineered by CAMS. Lastly 7 new members are on the books and bring with them 3 utes, 2 vans,a Special sedan and a Prem sedan. Ed MAIL BAG The club gets heaps of mail and we have published just some. All mail received by the club is answered. The club does not necessarily endorse point of views expressed in these letters. If you would like to publish your letter or opinions in this newsletter please send in your mail. Hi Vera, I was recently browsing your EH Holden club website and noticed that there are some cars advertised in your classified. I am a first time buyer, looking for an original sedan or station wagon that runs well, is less than $7,000, and does not need much work. Do you have any advice of things that I should be aware of when I am looking for my dream EH? Also, is there a course I can do on basic mechanics that would help me understand my carb better (or even a book on EH Holdens?). Would be great to get some advice, and let me know if you have any ideas for cars that may be a good investment. Cheers, 6112 .A. Ben Plunkett John, I have just come across your website while researching EH Holden's online, I pick up a 1965 EH premier wagon tomorrow morning, ($1500) and in need of restoration, I would like to become a member of the WA EH owners club, and tap into your expertise while sourcing the parts etc, to complete my restoration, I will download a membership form and send it in and if you could e-mail me an any upcoming events I could attend to meet some enthusiasts it would be greatly appreciated. Regards Kevin Chard Australind PO Box 2159 Seville Grove W I own an EJ Holden and I am seeking someone/business that does rust repair. I have been unsuccesful so far in locating a business or person that will cut some rust out of my vehicle. Chris Hello Vera I have a 63 EJ Wagon that needs some work and was hoping you could point me in the right direction. It needs some rust removal, paint job and some interior work. I bought the car 12 years ago when I was 17 and am getting married next year and wanted to have it as one of the wedding cars, along with hiring another one or two for the day, any help you can give me would be appreciated.
