JECS will have representatives present throughout the conference at the conference desk at Nagoya University. Further information from JECS is given below. Sightseeing spots: Nagoya Castle The symbol of the Nagoya City. First built in 1612 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Atsuta Shrine This 2000 year-old shrine is one of three major shrines in Japan along with Ise and Meiji. Atsuta Shrine houses the Sacred Treasures of the Imperial Family. This shrine is dedicated to the “Kusanagi (Grass-mowing) Sword”, one of the three imperial regalia. Osu Shopping Mall Osu is Nagoya’s bargain hunter paradise. A multitude of tiny individual shops each offering a particular specialty can be found in the Osu Shopping Mall. Also in the area are larger discount stores specializing in cameras, camcorders, and audio/stereo equipment. Not only electronics, but also almost anything, including used kimonos and antiques, can be found here at discount prices. AP-3: Ikebana – Special Practice of Flower Arrangement - Date: Thursday, September 12, 2002, Fare: 5,000 Yen/ person Place: Nagoya University * Please enjoy the practice of Ikebana, the flower arrangement. The master of flower arrangement will teach you thoroughly. 4 Tours (Conference Excursions) Wednesday Conference Excursions E-1, -2, -3. –4. –5 are NOT included in Registration Fee. Conference excursions are not free. However, conference participants are recommended to join one of the excursions, because all excursions end at Meiji Mura, an open-air museum of Meiji-era building, where the conference dinner (free of charge) will be held on the day of the excursion. The Meiji Mura museum is about 30 km north of Nagoya University and requires one-hour drive to get there. Those conference participants who will not join the conference excursion will be directed later how to travel to the Meiji Mura Museum. Meiji Mura (Open-air museum of Meiji-era buildings) Relocated to this open-air museum are 62 architectural structures from Meiji Period (1868-1912), the era when Japan broke its 200-year isolation and Western influence poured in.
