In the year 1931, the Belgian-Dutch residents of this district gathered to celebrate the golden anniversary of the deceased lady and her husband, the late Henry DeClerck who predeceased his wife in 1934, passing away in Harwich Township. Mrs. DeClerck was born in Belgium. The deceased is survived by four sons, Odell of Moline Ill., Cyriel of Wheatley, Ernest of Romney and Maurice of this town; and two daughters, Mrs. Dave Haven of Chatham and Mrs. Julius VanHorne of Delhi. There are 22 grandchildren. Services were held on Friday morning from the funeral home of J.A. Mass (should be Masse) and Son, Tilbury, and from thence the remains were conveyed to the Roman Catholic Church here, (note - this would be St. Mary's R.C. Church, Blenheim, Ontario) where services were held at 10:00 a.m. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery 1 This woman is the mother of Maurice DeClerck who married Zelma Irene VanGheluwe daughter of Theophile and Alexis (Reynaert) VanGheluwe Blenheim News Tribune, Blenheim, Ontario - page 20 - March 9, 1955 Service Thursday for A. VanGheluwe Mr. August VanGheluwe2, highly respected former Blenheim district farmer passed away Monday in St. Thomas at the age of 76 after a 2 year illness. Son of the late Henry VanGheluwe and Sarah vanderpeta (note - should read VandePutte), he was born in Belgium and came to Canada in 1909. Mr. VanGheluwe first lived in Alberta before coming to this district in 1928 where he farmed in Raleigh and Harwich Township. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are one brother Theophil of Blenheim, two sisters residing in Belgium and several nieces and nephews. Remains are resting at the Needham-Ford funeral Home where prayers will be offered on Wednesday evening at 8:00 o'clock. Services will be conducted on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church by Rev. Willibroerd. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. VanGheluwe, 82 was born in Belgium. She came to Canada in 1905 (note-this is incorrect, she in fact came to Detroit Michigan to her father, Alfons Reynaert with her mother Celina Soete). She and her husband farmed for many years before retiring to live in Blenheim. A highly respected resident of the area, Mr. VanGheluwe was a member of St. Mary's Church and of the Catholic Women's League.
