Monroe St., St., Monroe, Monroe, MI MI 48162 48162 | 734 R734241R1644241 1644 www.stmarymonroe.org THE CHRONICLE September 27, 2020 Founded in 1788 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time Catechetical Sunday Vision Statement: To Welcome. To Inspire. To Transform. To Serve. A Note From Father David In this major preRelecon season, I believe that we must be prudent in what we say and in what context we do so. We have a right to express our viewpoints, but it is very easy to even unintenonally get others upset because what we say and how we say it. As a priest, I am very conscious of trying to avoid creang distracons to my call to proclaim the Gospel, and focus on people, no maer what their views or stands. I don’t want to add to the anxiety and division that we are all experiencing in one way or another. All of us are called to be faithful cizens in our society, bringing our Chrisan values to bear on everything that we say and do. We pray for the courage to prudently give witness to our beliefs, knowing that we cannot impose our beliefs on others. When you come to mass or church funcons, I would ask that we avoid wearing polical messages or symbols that could be distracng to our worship and Chrisan fellowship. If you see someone with a message or symbol that disturbs you, don’t focus on it, but think of the person who has the same basic hopes and desires for a peaceful, meaningful and happy life. I hope that Church can be a place where we can get a reprieve from our charged and volale culture so that we can be nurtured to be the family of God that we are. THANK YOU I want to express my gratude to our dedicated parishioners who give me to sanize the church a er masses. They are very generous to give extra me for the wellRbeing of our parish family and those who are with us. If you are willing to help, talk to one of them a er mass. More hands make lighter work. I am also thankful for our young people who are recording our livestreamed masses so that those who cannot be with us can sll connect with their parish. Thanks to Mr. Jeff Goda for training them and being a constant support for them. BLESSING OF PETS Next Saturday, close to the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, we will offer the blessing of pets, weather perming. The blessing will be offered at St. Mary at 1:00 pm. Pets and their owners can gather in the area west of the Heritage Hall door. The blessing will also be offered at St. John the Bapst at 2:00 pm. Gather in the area near the entrance of the school. All are invited to join us for either blessing ceremony. As we bless our pets, we are also asking God to help us to be good stewards of the beauful world that God has given us, including the animals that offer us companionship and comfort. RESPECT LIFE Next Sunday is Respect Life Sunday. There will be a local life walk that day, beginning at the K of C Hall on Front Street at 12:00 noon. Deacon Zaid will be among the speakers. This walk is an opportunity to give public witness to our belief in the value and dignity of all human life, beginning with concepon in the womb. All are welcome.
