Jesus is just like all the other babies and just like we were once. No matter how many times we see a new born child we still pause and wonder at the mystery of creation. At the heart of Christmas is the wonder of a birth and also the promise of our rebirth and a new hope of God’s presence with us. God comes to us not in pomp or splendour but in lowliness and the poverty of a borrowed stable. Such a God is difficult for the powerful and the hard of heart to grasp, but the lowly and the humble searchers fall down before him as he lies in the manger. We are also invited to come to look, to learn and to worship this baby who Emmanuel: God with us. Much love, Colin Newborough welcomes a new head teacher and the community wish her well and offer our support Having worked in primary education for nearly twenty years, I am delighted to have been appointed as the Headteacher of Newborough Church of England Primary School. After completing my degree and teacher training in London and starting my teaching career working there, I relocated to Peterborough fifteen years ago as my husband, who is a serving member of the Armed Forces, was posted to this area. Since relocating, our family has grown in number as we now have two daughters and a labradoodle named Charlie. During my spare time I enjoy going to theatre, meeting up with family and friends, dog walking and reading. I do have a gym membership but it’s fair to say that I don’t use this as much as I should. Mrs Marrs Notice - The Newsletter team do not endorse the claims made by the adverts in this magazine, and if you do want proof of their quality, the best idea is to speak to someone who has had work carried out by them beforehand. After representation to senior Peterborough City Council Safety Officers to try and improve the safety on various roads in the Parish, improvements are expected. Some of which are listed below: - Decoy Crossroads Speed limit to the south of the Village Safety Issues on Willow Drove Safer crossing for schoolchildren from Soke Road to School Road Improving the traffic calming on the Thorney-Peakirk Road The Parish Council has requested various maintenance work on the roads around the village from the Highways Department of the City Council. The Parish Council would like to thank the Speedwatch team for their hard work in trying to reduce the general speed of the traffic throughout the village. The Parish Council with the help of our local City Councillors, have arranged for safety measures to be implemented around the School. Fernie Close Playing field is due for a long-awaited revamp. Plans are being drawn up for new equipment to be installed, and funding from various Grant schemes are being applied for. These will be match funded by the Parish Council. A considerable amount of work has been carried out to try and improve the maintenance of the allotments. The support of the allotment holders is greatly appreciated. After a disappointing start to the season, the Parish Council, along with its contractor, have carried out considerable improvements and maintenance of the churchyard, Fernie Close Play Area, and the Parish Council controlled grassed areas in the village. Some play areas and pathways are maintained by the City Council, and every effort has been made to keep these areas in good order as well. Peterborough City Council have approached the Trustees of the Village Hall and the Parish Council with regard to an asset transfer, i.e. to divest themselves of the responsibility of the maintenance of the Village Hall. Discussions are ongoing. There are many other issues the Parish Council is addressing at present, but unfortunately, all improvements seem to take a long while to conclude, as there always appears to be many fences to climb to reach a conclusion. Parish Council meetings are usually held on the 3 rd Monday of the month, although this does sometimes differ, so the dates are displayed in the Parish Notice Board in School Road, near the church, or on the website. www.newboroughpc.org.uk Page 4 CHURCH AND COMMUNITY NEWS THE FRUIT BASKET Newborough AND GENERAL STORE Butchers 41 Guntons Road Homem ade Saus ages, Pies and Bre OpeNiNg Times ad 7am to 6pm monday to saturday eep Freeze - Prices 8am to 1pm sunday D Orders upon request • Christmas Trees • Holly Wreaths OPENING HOURS • Pot Plants Monday 7.30am - 5.00pm Tuesday 7.30am - 5.00pm Local Delivery Arranged National Lottery Wednesday 7.30am - 5.00pm Health Lottery Thursday 7.30am - 5.00pm Payzone facilities Friday 7.30am - 5.00pm Stamps Available Saturday 7.30am - 2.00 pm ORDERS NOW BEING TAKEN FOR CHRISTMAS Call in and see us or ring 811955 Last date 18th December Staff would like to wish you all Tel: 01733 810048 “Merry Christmas” DGR Building EEyyee PPeett CCaarree && Services TTWehh breeed o urFF ownaa rabrrbitmsm, guin e aSS pigshh, hamoostepprs and chinchillas. At a time when crime figures nationally are very high, it is in all residents interest to be aware of local crime, anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping to name but a few. The mere fact that crime figures are low in and around our community should not allow us to become complacent. A small number of Newborough residents are attempting to resurrect and re-form the previous successful Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. Your support at the Village Hall at our first ‘Open Meeting’ will be very welcome. A formal date in January 2018 to be arranged and notices etc. displayed with the relevant date. The more representatives of Newborough, Borough Fen & Milking Nook that attend and get involved in the scheme, the more successful it will become. Remember it’s our community and a little effort from us all, will go a long way.
