Page 3 The 15th Kerry Sneem Scouts Group Peace Light 2019 In Palestine an eternal flame burns in the Church of the Nativity in the little town of Bethlehem – this is the place where Mary and Joseph went, two thousand years ago and where the baby Jesus was born. In December a small ceremony was held in the Grotto where a Palestini- an and an Israeli Scout took a light from the flame and carried it to Tel Aviv airport. The light was brought to Vi- enna where a Peace Light Service was held. A young Scout carried the ‘flame’ to the front of the Church and lit the Vienna Peace Candle. Representatives of Scout associations from all over the World were then invited to light their lan- terns from this candle and to take this symbol of Peace home to their own coun- tries. 15 th Kerry Sneem collected the light from 2 nd Tralee Scouts in Tralee, on December 21 st and shared this light of Peace with our community at St. Michael’s Church, St. Patrick’s Church and the Church of Transfiguration over Christmas. The light which we shared was carried by Scouts, by train and by car, bus and on foot through Austria, Switzerland and France and through the Channel Tunnel over to Dover in England. The light next travelled to Holyhead where it was brought on Stena Line by Scouts over the Irish Sea to Dublin. Over the Christmas period the light has been shared by thousands of young people to Churches and other places of Christian worship; to Hospitals and to Hostels for homeless people, across the length and breadth of Ire- land. Members of all sections from Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts took part in the journey of the light of Peace in Sneem and Tahilla. Through facilitation of bring- ing the light to different churches, participating in readings and writing their own reflections. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the event locally and abroad. Especially Fr. Liam O’Brien and Rev Michael Cavanagh who ena- ble the youth to participate in spreading the Light of peace this Christmas.
