A video production company in Montreal had discovered Maharishi School and wanted to visit our campus for an international series about “Schools Like No Other." Last fall they arrived and filmed our students, and the show aired across canda this winter. “A School Like No Other” is an accurate description of Maharishi School just from our achievements this school year: •6 state champion teams in Destination Imagination (33 partici pants) and four Top 20 places at the Global Finals •Three outstanding groups performing at the All-State Speech Festival •Southeast Iowa Superconference Champions in Quiz Bowl •Southeast Iowa Superconference Art Show: 1st Place in Drawing, 1st Place in Photography, and 1st Place in the Judges Award •A top score at the Iowa High School Music Association piano competition •Regional and State Science Fair Grand Champions at both Junior and Senior levels, and a trip to the INTEL International Science Fair in L.A. •Another National Merit Scholar with perfect 800’s on SAT writing and reading portions, with a 720 in math •Seniors accepted at 36 colleges and universities from coast to coast •The boys tennis team’s state record 10th straight Final Four appearance, competing for sin gles, doubles, and team championships Where else are students earning this range of accolades while investing in rest, taking time to tran- scend twice a day? The difference at Maharishi School is depth: •Depth of consciousness through our practice of the Transcendental Meditation program; •Depth of knowledge with the unifying Science of Creative Intelligence, and •Depth of relationships in our caring, multicultural community Visitors from all over the world comment on the extraordinary atmosphere of calm, kindness, and cre- ativity, and they want to replicate this model of Consciousness-Based education in their communities and countries. Thank you for your role in creating and supporting “A School Like No Other” pictured in this 2014 Yearbook. The School Council is responsible for the daily administration of the School. It is comprised of the School Head, Directors of Lower, Girls, and Boys Schools, and other ad- ministrative leaders. They work in collabora- tion to provide holistic guidance of our academic programs, finances, personnel, physical plant, and expansion programs. 2 3 Board of Directors John Lass Dr. Bevan Morris Jim Davis Marc Freeman Dr. Bill Goldstein Chair Chair Emeritus Shelley Gratzon Dr. John Hagelin Heather Hartnett Richard Hobbs Peter Huggins Camille Jorgensen Dr. Chris Jones Janet Nichols Dr. Craig Pearson Noah Siemsen Emmanuel Titus Susan Tracy Ted Wallace Sankari Wegman 4 Staff and Faculty Corina Acosta Fatima Akbar Christine Albers Akber Ali Amy Anderson Registrar PS/CC Teacher Expansion Director Data Manager; Development Officer Computer Teacher Anne Balf Laurie Baumann Richard Beall Rebecca Bellonci Laura Bordow 1/2 Boys Teacher Girls School School Head Preschool Director LS Director Director &Teacher Noelle Boucherle Jean Bousquet Don Brathwaite Student Accounts, PE Teacher LS Enrichment Admissions 9-12 Sports 5 Staff and Faculty AnaVictoria Braun Steve Briggs Cheryl Carter Syndy Casey Carol Chesnutt Central Office Boys Tennis Coach College Counselor Music Teacher Development Director Manager 7-12 Economics Teacher Priya Chhalliyil Michael Cook Cynthia Cornell Simon Davies Kodie Davis Central Office Sustainable Living, Resource Teacher Internet 5/6 Boys Teacher Manager Biology Teacher 9-12 K-6 Karen DeAngelis Ashley Deans Diane Denbaum Sustainable Living Executive Director LS PE Teacher Teacher 6 Staff and Faculty Debb Durflinger Felisha Durflinger Rebecca Dye Kathryn Eason Evelyn Ellinghaus Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance, Girls Office Spanish Teacher Custodian Custodian Custodian Laurie CentralEyre Office Trish Fenton Tom Fishback Jane Fleshman Ann Gary Math TeacherManager K-6 Purchaser Boys Dome Academic Advisor Food Service and Mentor Supervision Kristina Gelfand Rig Gelfand Marcy Gritz English Teacher Athletic Director LS Substitute 7 Staff and Faculty Lucinda Hall Tony Hallen Elyse Taniya Barbara Hays Handapangoda Tech Integration, DTP IT Support Hamilton-Soares 7/8 Math/Science Media Center Director Kindergarten Teacher, Press Teacher Teacher Camera Shy Justin Heaton Percilla Herrera Shelia Higgins Edward Hipp Christian Hoffmann MS Basketball Soccer Coach Girls Tennis Coach, Boys Golf Varsity Boys Coach 7/8 Girls Coach Coach Basketball Coach Eric Hoffmann Brandon Hyde Richard Incorvia Bus Driver Social Studies 7/8 English, SS Teacher, Coach Teacher 8 Staff and Faculty Juliet Jarmosco Springli Johnson Jeremy Jones Natasha Jones Laurie Kavanaugh LS Enrichment, Admissions Math, SCI Teacher SCI, Social M/U Substitute, Photography Officer Studies Teacher Special Projects Camera Shy John Matthews Susan Marcus Mala Markowitz Annalisa Miller Karim Nahabet Business Princi- SCI Curriculum PS Teacher, Alumni Relations Math, SCI ples, Practices Consultant Media Center Teacher Teacher Shane Orne Malcolm Porch Mitchell Price PE Teacher Assistant Concessions 9-12 Basketball Coach Manager 9 Staff and Faculty Rick Rudloff June Schindler Asha Sharma Karen Sherbondy Lin Lin (Ye) Shi Physics, Math Finance Sanskrit / Childcare LS Resource International Student Teacher Manager Teacher Teacher Advisor Lynn Shirai Kathy Siemsen Celeste Siemsen Joy Smith Adam Terfa Substitute 3/4 Boys Administrative Development Accounts Teacher Director Officer Payable Girma Tessema Greg Thatcher Jan Thatcher Brendan Thomas Chemistry Teacher Art, Photography Assistant English, Speech Teacher Speech Teacher Teacher 10 Staff and Faculty Emily Timm Greg Titus Karen Valentine Wendi Vessey Kate Vetter 3-8 Art Teacher, Anatomy, Physiol- K-2 Art Teacher Sustainable Living 1/2 Girls Teacher Lunch Supervisor ogy Teacher Assistant Meg Vigmostad Cathy Wadsworth Timothy Walker Ted Wallace Danielle Wallace 1st and 2nd Grade 5/6 Boys Teacher, Boys Dean Assistant Volleyball Volleyball Coach Teacher Data manager Coach Katherine Walmsley Terry Weiss Mark Wilkins Charlotte Zmachinsky Resource Teacher Human Resources, DI Director, SCI & Art 5/6 Girls Teacher Associate Facilities Teacher, Program Supervisor 11 PreSchool Aden Lieb Aislinn Wise Alekai Amy Jing Archer Khare Johnston Beau Jarmosco Bidhi Dangol Evie Kunzler Faeven Gray Saturley Gebremariam Isis Timm Issac Pappin Leanna Lenox Bright Leon Estey Rodriguez Malvika Marley Bright Mathis Eller Natalie Kahiu Oliver Karna Siemsen 12 PreSchool Ronan Daniels Saif Akbar Shea Jarmosco Kindergarten Abigail Bekele Antariksha Kai Hollrah Kate Jarmosco Phoenix Sharma Johnson Tula Sorflaten Kyran Wallace 1313 1st,Class 2nd Title girls Alea Hunter Corina Timm Julia Wallace Kaley Kunzler Kendall Anderson Mika Luisa Nishika Singh Qi Branzei Sage Jarmosco Uma Wegman Rodriguez Zoe Soares 14 1st,Class 2nd Title boys Daniel Eliot Gamble Ethan Kunzler Jack Beckley Miles Siemsen Ellinghaus Nikolai Emerson Ousman Saine Ravi Bedi Tristan Wise Chaiden
