Stable for 12 months at -20°C BACKGROUND Introduction This gene encodes a member of the claudin family. Claudins are integral membrane proteins and components of tight junction strands. Tight junction strands serve as a physical barrier to prevent solutes and water from passing freely through the paracellular space between epithelial or endothelial cell sheets, and also play critical roles in maintaining cell polarity and signal transductions. This protein plays important roles in the paracellular cation barrier of the distal renal tubule, and in the paracellular barrier to prevent sodium back-leakage in distal colon. Differential expression of this gene has been observed in colorectal carcinoma and renal cell tumors, and along with claudin-7, is an immunohistochemical marker for the differential diagnosis 45-1 Ramsey Road, Shirley, NY 11967, USA Email: [email protected] Tel: 1-631-624-4882 Fax: 1-631-938-8221 1 © Creative Diagnostics All Rights Reserved of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and renal oncocytoma.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010] GENE INFORMATION Entrez Gene ID 9073 Protein Refseq NP_955360 UniProt ID P56748 Chromosome Location 21q22.1 Pathway Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), organism-specific biosystem; Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), conserved biosystem; Cell junction organization, organism-specific biosystem; Cell-Cell communication, organism-specific biosystem; Cell-cell junction organization, organism-specific biosystem; Hepatitis C, organism-specific biosystem; Hepatitis C, conserved biosystem; Leukocyte transendothelial migration, organism-specific biosystem; Leukocyte transendothelial migration, conserved biosystem; Tight junct Function identical protein binding; structural molecule activity; 45-1 Ramsey Road, Shirley, NY 11967, USA Email: [email protected] Tel: 1-631-624-4882 Fax: 1-631-938-8221 2 © Creative Diagnostics All Rights Reserved.
