DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH--Brad Keller, who was picked off of Arizona’s AA club in Jackson last December during the Rule 5 draft, earned his first win as a starter yesterday, becoming the youngest Royal (22 years, 333 days) to win a start since Yordano Ventura (22 years, 326 days) on April 25, 2014 at Baltimore…Keller’s win over the Halos was the first for a KC starter since June 9 in Oakland (Danny Duffy)…he is the second Royal with a start of at least 7.0 shutout innings and two-or-fewer hits within his first five career starts, joining Mel Stottlemyre Jr. on September 5, 1990...Keller also extended his homerless streak to 41.0 innings, the second-longest active streak in the Majors, trailing only Atlanta’s Dan Winkler (43.2 IP)…Keller hasn’t allowed a home run in 26.0 innings at Kauffman Stadium this season, the most innings without a roundtripper allowed in a home ballpark in the Majors. FIRING BLANKS--The Royals haven’t won a lot this year, but 25% of their victories have proven the theory that you can’t lose if you don’t give up any runs... yesterday’s 2-0 win over the Angels was KC’s sixth shutout of the season, matching the number of blankings fired all of last season...the Royals have but four wins this month, the last three of which have been shutouts, but by the slimmest of margins by the scores of 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0 over Oakland, Houston and Los Angeles, respectively.
