Careers in customer, IT, data and professional services www.hastingsdirectcareers.com 4 Message from the President of the Lions Club of Hastings It is my great pleasure to be the President of the Lions club of Hastings and as such to be involved this year at the start and finish of this the 36th half marathon. I have been involved with the Lions for 10 years and assisted with marshalling Queensway to the Ridge throughout that time. I am full of admiration for everyone who takes part in the Half Marathon and the Mini Run, the commitment, dedication and effort to complete the course is amazing. The Lions club of Hastings can donate to so many local worthy causes because of your generosity and offer help both nationally and Internationally in times of real need. Last year the Lions Club of Hastings donated £23,764.00 to local deserving causes Including donations to the floods appeal in both Doncaster and Japan. This event would not be possible without the continued support of all our Sponsors, Hastings Borough Council, Area Marshals, Stewards, Computer operators, the scouts and many other unpaid volunteers and our grateful thanks goes out to them all. Finally, I wish all participants the very best of luck and hope you achieve whatever goal you have set for yourselves. To all the marshals a very big thank you. To all spectators I hope the weather makes for an enjoyable time and please cheer on all the runners. Peter Jackson President – Lions Club of Hastings The Local Hastings Lions meet at 8pm every 2nd Tuesday at the White Rock Hotel and most 4th Tuesday’s for a social meal in a local establishment. I know that it is one of the most popular events of its type, and I must again thank Eric Hardwick and his dedicated band of Lions Club colleagues for the tremendous job they do every year. We like to think of ourselves as 'famously Hastings', and so it is quite appropriate that one of the most famous, and popular, half marathons takes place here. I do hope you have a great day, and then have a chance to The Right Worshipful the enjoy all that our wonderful, and very special, town has to Mayor of Hastings, offer. Councillor Alan Roberts Alan. It never ceases to amaze me how many dedicated entrants and supporters we have, from re-entering each year, to marshalling the same position for 36 years! This is what give ‘Hastings Half’ its heart and knowing that ALL monies raised from the event go to needy causes. Eric, Val and Princess Anne The event has changed over the years, from when we had the Top British and International Athletes competing at Hastings, to the situation now that so many commercial events pay such big money for Athletes that we cannot as a Charity Event compete with them. We have never paid appearance money, and try to see as much money go to those in need. The Prize Money at Hastings is sponsored by Hastings Direct, for which we are most grateful and therefore enables the maximum monies to go to Charity.
