TEAM TOAN MASTERY We have high aspirations and the urge to get better, to become the best that we can be. Message from the Headteacher Welcome to The Oldham Academy North! Starting a new school is an exciting time. At TOAN we pride ourselves on making sure you have as much information as possible, so that your transition journey can be positive and smooth. As an Academy, we live by our mission statement and our values and we expect that all of our students do too. We want all students to be successful in the competitive and challenging world and we believe that every student is able to achieve great outcomes, particularly in a range of subjects that will help you throughout your life. It may sound a very long way off but your GCSE exams are less than 1000 days away from the day you start with us in September – we want to make sure every single one of these helps you on your journey and we will do our very best to make sure you are extremely successful when you leave us. Our Values of Trust, Endurance, Autonomy and Mastery will help you to understand how and why we do the things we do. We Trust you to do the right thing, whether this is home learning or telling the truth, following our habits or being a great member of the TEAM. We show Endurance always, in all ways. We know that life is hard sometimes and we will support you with as much as we can but endurance is about how you respond and react to situations when the going gets tough! You can show this in your class work, a project you are working on, getting to school on time, every day – even in deepest, darkest winter or even how you approach tough situations. Throughout your 1000 days with us, you will need to show a level of Autonomy, this means showing your own initiative to get the job done; not necessarily following your peers or what social media tells us to do. Be unique – be you! We also want to make sure that you achieve Mastery in everything that you do. Professionals spend hours and hours practising their skills and talents; you’ve already been a scholar for 1200 days through your primary education, just imagine how amazing you could be in another 1000 days? If you aren’t great at something now, let’s start practising! Together, as a TEAM, with your parents/carers, we will help you to be very successful in all aspects of your life. We hope that you are looking forward to getting started, as much as we are looking forward to starting your journey with you. My door is always open for you to come and have a chat and say hello. I look forward to meeting you and your family. Best wishes, Rachael Hallam Headteacher TEAM TOAN TEAM TOAN TEAM TOAN TEAM TOAN TRUST ENDURANCE AUTONOMY MASTERY TRUST ENDURANCE AUTONOMY MASTERY www.theoldhamacademynorth.e-act.org.uk Welcome year 6 students & parents On behalf of myself, the year 7 form tutors and the pastoral team, I would like to welcome you to our school.
