Despite its many stresses and commitments, the holidays bring many pleasures and About TheatreWorks 3 treasures, like TheatreWorks’ annual family friendly production at Silicon Valley the Lucie Stern Theatre. In addition to our much-appreciated loyal subscribers, the holiday show brings new audiences in search of a family-oriented holiday treat, and our goal is to surprise and Give the Gift of TheatreWorks 7 delight them with our art and our spirit. If you are one of them, we welcome you warmly, and hope you will come back for more! The Season of Giving 8 This year’s production, Tuck Everlasting, brings not only lovely music and a lively TW Education Camps cast of characters, but like many shows this season offers a philosophical dilemma: If you could live forever without aging, would you? For our lovely 11-year-old Winnie Foster, that proves to be a very difficult question. It’s not an easy question About Tuck Everlasting and 11 for any of us. As I grow in age and (hopefully!) grace and watch the challenges Its Creators my own children face in the current world, I wouldn’t want to be their age again. If I had frozen at 11 years old, would I still be reading all night under the covers 12 Director’s Notes and waking up to the challenges of being the big sister in charge? I realize that I like becoming a little wiser each year, with a little more perspective and a gradual increase in the choices I get to make about who I am and want to be. But then I notice that I don’t walk as fast, or do math in my head; I realize that age has robbed me of some quickness and innocence, and I miss that little girl who thought she could change the world. Winnie’s decision isn’t easy or obvious—but it is truly thought provoking, provid- ing all of us an opportunity to take stock of what’s important. What does she decide? If you are reading this as you wait for the show, you’ll find out very soon! In the meantime, let me ask you: If you had the chance to live forever, would you take it? Happy Holidays from all of us at TheatreWorks! We look forward to bringing you more joy, talent, and food for thought in the New Year!
