One element of the renaissance links everything in Portsmouth Harbour together - nearly six kilometres of new public promenades on both Portsmouth and Gosport sides of the harbour. On the Portsmouth route of the new Millennium Promenade you will discover exciting new attractions such as the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard’s interactive and high-tech attraction Action Stations! and Gunwharf Quays, a lifestyle destination with entertainment, designer outlet shopping and cosmopolitan bars and restaurants. Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth RBA000144-0005 The award winning Millennium Promenade with its superb vistas across the harbour features a chain motif, symbolising partnership between the communities of Portsmouth and Gosport, past and present. Extending nearly three kilometres from the Royal Navy Submarine Museum to the Priddy’s Hard Heritage Area, the Gosport Millennium Promenade features Timespace - one of the largest vertical sundials in the world. Timespace, Gosport Spanning 40 metres across with a mast 17 metres high at the centre, Timespace was created in celebration of the year 2000 drawing a spiritual link between Gosport’s Holy Trinity Church and Portsmouth Harbour via the new 183 metre Haslar Marina Millennium Pier. The Promenade’s new walkways, lighting and street furniture all complement the beautiful Falkland Gardens featuring a 7.5 metre wide mosaic to commemorate those who left Gosport to serve in the D-Day landings Falkland Gardens Mosaic, Gosport and the Falklands conflict. At Priddy’s Hard you will discover Gosport’s latest attraction - Explosion! the Museum of Naval Firepower. Tracing the development of naval firepower from gunpowder to the Exocet missiles, it also tells the story of the men and women who worked with explosives every day from the battle of Trafalgar to the Gulf War. As part of the Victorian fortifications surrounding Portsmouth Harbour, look out for Fort Gilkicker and No. 2 Battery at the western end of Stokes Bay.
