Sepsis strikes roughly 20 percent of patients admitted to hospital intensive care units. Being able to test patients at the bedside rather than having to send blood off to the lab for analysis allows doctors to detect the infection sooner and accelerate treatment. The device can also be used to determine whether a patient is improving or not, and ultimately may assist in providing a prognosis. THE HUMANITIES EXAMINING HOW WE RELATE TO ANIMALS
