The most important thing to know is that it is an Add-on to the Vehicle and that it relies on a seamless integration with the Vehicle in order to work. Below is a simple overview of the RES components (in yellow) and the various vehicle systems that it integrates with. Knowing this, it is always a good idea to start Troubleshooting by connecting the Techstream to the Vehicle and making sure that everything on the Vehicle side is working properly (see Pg. 18). If you come across any error codes you will need to fix those first. Please contact the TAS Line (800. 233. 3718) for assistance with troubleshooting vehicle side issues. Page 2 of 25 T BEFORE USING THIS GUIDE STAR Ok, so now that you’ve checked/solved any Vehicle side problems, it is time to determine what options you have on your Vehicle. This is very important, as you may have noted on the previous page, the RES integrates into the Vehicle differently depending on whether you have a Vehicle with Smart Key, TDS, and/or Immobilizer. Smart Key Vehicles are easy to identify by locating the push start button on the dash, however TDS and Immobilizer are often times harder to identify. Use the chart below to determine which, if any, of these your Vehicle has. Smart Key System TDS Factory Security Immobilizer System t EWD ADD. Page 3 of 25 5 CANNOT PROGRAM T WHat IS THE PROBLEM? Page 4 of 25 9 8 Cannot Program the Vehicle. So, you are having problems Registering the RES System. This is a very common issue and can be linked to a missing or faulty signal, but most times it is related to a missed step in the programming procedure. Below are 7 a few common things we know to help people program the Vehicle. Look over these and then start the Trouble- shooting process below. 1. CONFIRM that you are using the correct Registration Procedure for your Vehicle. Refer to Pg. 3 of this 6 Troubleshooting Guide and the Vehicle’s Installation Instructions to verify this. 2. SLOW DOWN this is the best thing you can do. The procedure is difficult and long but there is plenty of time to do everything. When turning the key, inserting the key or pressing the remote; make your actions rhythmic like a clock, Slow and Deliberate. 3. READ the instructions supplied in the Vehicle’s V4 Installation Instructions completely before attempting Registration. 4. USE the Registration Audio Assistance File or ASK someone else to read the steps to you while you perform the procedure. This will help you remember what needs to be done next without having to look back at the Instructions. 5. PROBLEMS if you’ve failed to Register the Vehicle several times RESET the Vehicle. Start by discon- necting the RES Diagnostic Connectors. Then disconnect the Vehicle Battery. Next, turn the Vehicle’s Ignition Switch to ON and then back to OFF. Now TAKE A BREAK. let you and the Vehicle de-stress for about 10 minutes. This will allow the RES ECU to completely RESET and give you a fresh start to try Registration. 1) Retry Programming using Audio Assistant. w/immobilizer wo/immobilizer Audio Assistance Audio Assistance Press to play/repeat Press to play/repeat Congratulations on a successful YES NO Remote Engine Starter Installation. (Success) (Failure) 2) Take note of where the Registration failed. 1) Hazard lights won’t flash after step 1: cycled the ignition ON↔OFF 5 times. 2) Hazard lights won’t flash or flashes Twice after step 2: run the engine for 10 sec. and then turn it off. 3) Immobilizer / Status Monitor LED lighting sequence does not follow the proper sequence of turning on for 1 second, off for 1 second, and then back on until the key is removed from the ignition. t 4) Hazard lights flash three times after closing the hood. EWD 5) Hazard lights don’t flash after closing the hood. ADD. Page 5 of 25 Hood Switch Issue. Usual Symptoms: Hazard Lights don’t Flash after closing the hood in the last step. 1) Check the Connections associated with the Hood Switch. a) Use the Vehicle Wiring Overview (Pg. 20) to locate the Hood Switch Connections. b) Make sure that any splicing connections, Pin inserts, or connectors associated with this signal are correct and the signal is getting to the RES ECU. Correct any issues with the NO YES signals and attempt to program the (Bad Connection) (Good Connections) Vehicle. 1. In situations where the Connections are correct but 2) Attempt to Re-Program the Vehicle. the signal is not reaching the ECU you will need to a) Refer to Pg. 5 for help with this. swap the harness prior to attempting programming. Congratulations on a successful YES NO Remote Engine Starter Installation. (Success) (Failure) 3) Replace the Hood Switch. a) Refer to the Vehicle’s V4 Installation Instructions. Check TIS for the latest Issue # 4) Move on to the next section, Immobilizer Signal Issue and continue Troubleshooting from there. t EWD ADD. Page 6 of 25 Immobilizer Signal Issue. Usual Symptoms: Immobilizer / Status Monitor LED lighting sequence does not follow the proper sequence of turning on for 1 second, off for 1 second, and then back on until the key is removed from the ignition Hazard lights flash three times after closing the hood. Vehicle will Crank but not turn over when Remote Started. 1) Attempt to Program the Vehicle using the audio assistant for rhythm and timing since the immobilizer setting is time sensitive. a) Verify that the Vehicle has Immobilizer (see Pg. 3). Congratulations on a successful YES NO Remote Engine Starter Installation. (Success) (Failure) 2) Check Connections associated with the Immobilizer Signal. a) Use the Vehicle Wiring Overview (Pg. 20) to locate the Immobilizer Connectors. b) Make sure that any splicing connections, Pin inserts, or connectors associated with this signal is correct and the signal is getting to the RES ECU. Correct any issues with the signals and attempt to program the Vehicle. NO YES 1. In situations where the Connections are correct but the signal is not reaching 3) Use the Techstream to verify the status of the Vehicle Side the ECU, you will need to Immobilizer signal. swap the harness prior to attempting programming. RES is dependant on many NO Vehicle Side signals. If there is an ERROR ERRORS error on the Vehicle side this will need to be fixed before attempting RES Programing. 4) Contact the TAS Line [ (800) 233-3718 ] for additional troubleshooting 1. Consult TIS or TAS assistance. [ (800)-233-3718 ] for t assistance on this matter. EWD ADD. Page 7 of 25 Missing or Faulty Check Engine Signal. Usual Symptoms: TVIP Fault Code 4. Engine dies after 5-10 seconds. During Registration, the Vehicle Hazard Lights won't flash or flashes Twice after running the engine for 10 seconds. 1) Check Vehicle’s “Check Engine Light.” a) Enter the Vehicle. b) Insert the Key into the Ignition and turn it to ACC. c) LOOK for the “Check Engine Light” to turn off after 5 seconds. The RES System will not operate if the “Check Engine Light” stays on. Contact TAS if you need help NO YES repairing/resetting the Vehicle in or- der to get the “Check Engine Light” to turn off. 2) Check all connectors, pin inserts, or splicing connectors associated with the MPX and “Check Engine Signal.” a) Use the Vehicle Wiring Overview (Pg. 20) to locate the MPX and CHK Signal.” b) Make sure that any splicing connections, Pin inserts, or connectors associated with these signals are correct and the signals are getting to the RES ECU. Check Engine Signal is reaching RES ECU Correctly. 1. Reprogram the System YES NO and Test RES. (Signal at ECU) (No signal at ECU) • Make sure that the engine runs for at least 10 seconds. • Make sure the IG ON → OFF 3) Replace the RES Harness with a new or “known good” harness. 5 times sequence is done within 20 seconds. a) Reprogram the System and Test RES. 2.
