In May 1915, as she sailed past the Old Head of Kinsale in County Cork, the Lusitania was struck by a torpedo that was fired from a German U-Boat called the U20. She set out on her maiden voyage on the 10th of April 1912. On this voyage she hit an iceberg. The iceberg ripped a hole 90 meters long in the hull of the liner. Passengers scrambled for the lifeboats but 1,517 of them were drowned. On the 15th of April the unsinkable ship sank in the freezing waters of the Atlantic Ocean. .
