Kim received a Masters of Arts degree in Historic Preservation Planning from Cornell University and her work experience has included employment with the National Park Service in Washington D.C. as a member of the technical research staff; the Boston Landmarks Commission overseeing preservation compliance in the nation’s largest Victorian-era historic district; and the Massachusetts Historical Commission (SHPO) as a part of the grants administration staff during an incredible state surplus period with $10million in grant projects. Her public-sector work has been balanced with a significant number of years working for prominent preservation architecture and planning firms in Boston, as well as with considerable grassroots advocacy efforts. Upon returning to New York, her consulting work has included numerous National Register nominations, historic structure reports, rehabilitation investment tax credit projects, cultural resource surveys, condition assessment reports and architectural services for State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) projects. A great majority of her projects are funded by the Preservation League of NYS’s PreserveNY or T.A.G grants, NY Landmark Conservancy’s Sacred Sites Program, Heritage Preservation and the EPF, often as a result of her involvement in the grant proposal process.
