School of Undergraduate Studies Ambedkar University Delhi Course Outline Course Code: HAP Title: Hindi Adhar Patyakram Type of Course: Foundation/elective Cohort for which it compulsory: None Cohort for which it is elective: All Majors No of Credits: 4 Semester and Year Offered: 1st Semester (Monsoon Semester 2013) Course Coordinator and Team: Dr. Gopalji Pradhan and Dr. Satyaketu Sankrit Email of course coordinator: [email protected] Pre-requisites: None Aim: This course helps I Semester students to comprehend linguistic and literary development of Hindi so that they may use this as source in understanding other Social Science courses and this course also helps SSH students to fulfill their requirement of necessary courses to attain Graduation. Brief description of modules/ Main modules: Selection of representative Poetry and Fiction along with Non-fiction Prose written in Hindi is taught basically through class room teaching. It includes poetry from devotional poets like Kabirdas, Surdas, Tulsidas and Mirabai. Apart from these pre- modern poets some other such as Maithili Sharan Gupta, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Mahadevi Verma, Nagarjun, Bhawani Prasad Mishra and Raghubir Sahai are also represented through their representstive poems. The prose section includes an essay of Bhartendu Harishchandra describing different forms of Hindi Bhasha. Fiction part includes a short story by Premchand, a travelogue by Rahul Sankrityayan and an essay by Hazari Prasad Dwivedi. It also includes satirical writings, radio drama and Sketches by important prose writers of Hindi. The other section of the prose portion includes non literary thought provoking Hindi writing on Economics, History, Sociology, Philosophy, Music, Science and Culture by Kamal Nayan Kabra, Sundar Lal, S. C. Dubey, Narendra Dev, Gunakar Muley and Ram Manohar Lohia. This selection also includes translated article of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Assessment Details with weights: 1Two take home assignments of 20% Total 40% 2 Mid semester and End semester 30% Total 60% .
