The ELC is the longest running intensive English language program in Denver. For over 40 years, the ELC has prepared students for academic success in Bachelors, Masters, and PhD programs at DU and other institutions of higher education. The University of Denver is committed to fostering an international campus. We seek to recruit highly qualified international students who will contribute to a community that is open to broad ideas, diverse cultures, and international perspectives. ELS students are University of Denver students and receive a Student ID Card. With their ID card, students can take advantage of university campus resources, such as the libraries, tutoring and writing centers, student clubs, dining halls, and the gymnasium. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The ELC has dedicated facilities on campus with classrooms, meeting spaces, and faculty/staff offices. The main ELC building includes an outdoor community space, a student lounge with computers, a kitchen, and couches and chairs for relaxing. The ELC hosts students from 15-20 countries per quarter and we offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students at all English levels. Students in higher levels are able to customize their program by choosing an Elective class. Contact the ELC Website: www.du.edu/elc Email: [email protected] Phone: 1-303-871-3075 Intensive English Language Programs 9-week programs run every quarter: o Fall Quarter: September – November o Winter Quarter: January – March o Spring Quarter: March – May o Summer Quarter: June – August Programs are 20 hours of study per week (Monday-Thursday) 5-level intensive English curriculum Students in higher levels can choose from Elective courses such as: o STEM Preparation o Professional Communication o Service Learning o Digital Magazine o Sustainability o American Culture (Music, Sports, Colorado, and more) ENGLISH CONDITIONAL ADMISSION (ECA) Are you worried about meeting our English proficiency requirement? The University of Denver accepts students through our English Conditional Admission (ECA). Conditionally admitted students will study in the ELC’s LAUNCH Curriculum. The LAUNCH Curriculum consists of students taking 1 – 3 credit courses depending on their level and English needs. Students who successfully complete the LAUNCH Curriculum are fully admitted to their degree program. The courses in the LAUNCH Curriculum are taught by faculty members from the ELC and are designed to help students be more successful in their academic programs by improving their proficiency in English, learning about being part of an American institution of higher education, and learning more about U.S. culture. All instructors have a Master’s degree or PhD degree with many years of experience teaching students from around the world. Many of our faculty have also traveled, lived and worked in countries around world, such as Chile, China, Ecuador, France, Korea, Senegal, and Taiwan. CULTURAL EXPERIENCE Immersing students in the DU and Denver communities is at the center of our ELC curriculum. Students benefit from class content connected to experiential learning opportunities, such as exploring Denver, attending sporting events, enjoying outdoor excursions, viewing theatrical productions, and visiting museums. ELC students enjoy having Fridays free to practice their language skills and engage in the local culture. Students benefit from small class sizes and regular access to instructors during office hours. Each student also has a personal, dedicated ELC academic adviser throughout his or her time in the program.
