It began in the office, firstly, we lost our Development Officer, then our Junior Development Officer and finally our Executive Director. Fortunately, we had Gina who held the fort and then we made a spectacular recovery. I have great pleasure in welcoming and introducing Mrs Jodie Watson (nee Taylor) as our new Executive Director and Director of Coaching. Mrs Watson comes with a water polo background, not only representing Australia as a player and manager but also coached Junior and National League teams. Mrs Watson came to us with wonderful credentials having held positions with Australian University Sport and Bicycle Queensland. Water Polo Queensland is very pleased to have her on board and when I say she was able to hit the ground running, I mean she was sprinting. In the pool this past season, we have had outstanding results: Men • National League Barracudas and KFC finished in the top 6 – Barracudas 4 th , KFC 6 th . • NTC Challenge – Queensland – 3rd Bronze • Under 20 – 3rd Bronze • Under 20 – 2nd Silver • Under 18 – 2 teams entered finishing 4th and 6 th • Under 16 – Club Nationals, Barracudas – 2nd Silver, KFC – 14 th • Under 14 – East Coast Challenge, 2 teams entered finishing 2 nd Silver and 4th • Under 14 – Club Nationals, KFC – 2nd Silver, Barracudas – 7th • School Boys – 3rd Bronze Women • National League Barracudas – 1st Gold (Three years in a row) - KFC – 6th • NTC Challenge – Queensland – 1st Gold • Under 20 – 2nd Silver • Under 20 – 1st Gold • Under 18 – 2 teams entered finishing 1 st Gold and 6 th • Under 16 – Club Nationals, Sunshine Coast – 4th , BGGS – 8th • Under 14 – East Coast Challenge, 2 teams entered finishing 1st Gold and 4th • Under 14 – Club Nationals, Rivercity – 4th , KFC – 9th , Stuartholme – 12 th , Barracudas – 15 th • School Girls – 2nd Silver As you can imagine, with these excellent results many of our players were rewarded with selection in Australian National Teams. This leads me to our development program. Our Emerging Athlete Program (EAP) for girls has been up and running for 3 years with notable success, the number of gold medals speak for themselves. We are about to implement the boys EAP and I have no doubt that it too will be just as successful. Whilst our player participation numbers are continually growing in the South East corner, our numbers are declining in North Queensland. Under the guidance of Mrs Watson, plans are already under way to rectify this situation. Water Polo Queensland 2010/11 Annual Report Page 6 I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the clubs, coaches, referees, volunteers and especially the players for such a successful season. These wonderful results wouldn’t be possible without you. I would also like to thank the Executive Committee for their support and commitment. This season the Executive Committee faced some difficult situations and I am most proud that these were dealt with integrity, unity, professionalism and every decision made was for the betterment of the sport of water polo. Sadly, one of our Executive Committee members are stepping down and on behalf of everyone on the Executive Committee, I would like to thank Helen Park for her time and dedication (driving down from the Sunshine Coast to attend every Board meeting), it has always been appreciated, and you will be missed.
